With a delicate country twang that plays perfectly with the indie rock sound, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses will murmur his emotionally complex songs to intimate rooms of thousands when the band begins its "Acoustic At The Ryman" Tour in early 2014. The group, originally called Horses, is known best for its melancholy lullaby-like “No One’s Gonna Love You” and the more anthemic “Is There a Ghost,” though they have several songs pulled from their four albums—"Everything All the Time," "Cease to Begin," "Infinite Arms" and "Mirage Rock"—that have enjoyed critical and popular acclaim. With the latest tour comes an accompanying release, "Acoustic At The Ryman," which pares down the sound even further.
Co-founded by former Seattleites Bridwell and then bandmate Mat Brooke in 2004, the Band of Horses collective has seen several lineup changes, with the current group including Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds. In an unusually democratic move, they collaborate together on song lyrics, instrumentation and show experience to create a lush, confessional sound for each concert and a unique feel for every album. Tickets are on sale now for the February shows. As fans scoop up seats on the West Coast, they are also no doubt replaying the beloved tunes from their significantly more upbeat 2012 album release, "Mirage Rock," which features the songs “Slow Cruel Hands of Time” and “Knock Knock” and isn’t a particularly easy album to play on the road. Bridwell jocularly laments his lack of musician prowess, but it’s clear from his latest works that practice is paying off, and his fans can look forward to many more years of his sweet, sentimental and lyrically complex melodies.
This show was amazing!!!!! Band of horses sounded excellenttt!!!!
First of all, what happened during that half hour between the first (forgettable) act and Band of Horses actually enter the stage? that was a looong wait and it was hhot!! On the other hand, I loved the range of ages that this band attracts. I didn't realize they'd appeal to such a younger crowd - I mean, lots of fifteen year olds - as well as older. A big family. And it's a beautiful venue, reminds me of the Wiltern in LA. But for some reason it seems to me that the band had some hindrance to snap the beat a bit. Their sound, his voice, everything was there, yet it felt sort of dragging which consequently made everything sound sort of the same - so much that I'm not even sure they ever played Wicked Gil. If they did I somehow didn't notice. Maybe it was the heat. However as long as you know their music and happen to absolutely love their albums, as do I, it was still a good concert.
Band Of Horses was tight. I really liked the new stuff they played. Overall it was a great show and i was happy to see the Band Of Horses pack them in the Fox Theater!
They sounded amazing and the venue was great Best ive been too so far! triple encore
Have been waiting to see this band for a few years now, never really got the chance to see them live up until last night, either i had something to do already or never worked to go out of town and see their show, but anyhow,it was all worth it last night. Just an awesome show, they really get the crown into it by just the music alone,if you do happen to enjoy their music, live will just blow you away.
Didn't really dig the opening act, Willoughby, but Band of Horses more than made up for it. Venue was great with plenty of room to find the "perfect seat"!
The mellow crowd at Pomona's Fox Theater made it easy to get to the front where I enjoyed an unobstructed view of a charming surfy set by indie cuties Willoughby and a killer set by BoH. BoH is probably my favorite band, so I was more or less transfixed through their entire set. They're so talented and so likeable, and their song writing is so solid, I would have driven twice as far to see them. There were no fancy light gags, and not much in the way of antics (although the bass player is fairly animated), but that stuff is all superfluous when you're dealing with music this beautiful and genuine. My friend pointed out that they also have great taste in instruments. Truly, if you're a guitar geek, their lead guitarist has some eye candy (not to mention being pretty easy on the eyes himself). The venue is really nice too, with a couple of bars and lounge areas to hang out in while you wait for the show to start.
these guys put on a great show...my wife was more into them than i was when we went, so i wasn't expecting too much, but they rocked my socks off. even though their recorded music seems soft and mellow, these guys know how to rock. they have a bit of country influence that comes out in some of their songs, which i love being played on pedal steel
Good show, they sounded really good. VERY mellow. People tried to tell us to be quiet, as if we were at the movies. A lot of their music is pretty mellow to begin with, and we really like them, but some of the people there were not very fun.
BOH sounded amazing and the venue was pretty cool! PBR for $4 is cheap by concert standards. Even did an encore with a few more songs. Cool!
BAND OF HORSES never disapoint no matter where they play. Everything was ok this night exept one of the most important things to me and I am sure to the band: the sound was horrible, it sounded like someone just turned down all the treble in my car stereo. All in all they might concider having the sound board guy get his ears checked, he might not even be aware that he or she might have a problem. P.S. BOH should concider recording an album of just cover.
Was really looking forward to this show, loving both of their current albums. They did everyone proud with a fantastic show - great energy, great live sound. Ben's voice was simply spot on tonight, every note reverbing through the theater - Bill(on the bass) had some crazy energy going on, all over the stage and rockin' it back to the amp. Sit-in keyboard/vocals Ryan was a nice fill, and even had lead on one of the new songs - of which they played 4 I think - all sounded GREAT. (cant wait for the new album to drop!) Creighton and Tyler adding in to the mix - everything jsut came together beautifully for an awesome performance. I'm giving them only 4 stars instead of 5, because they didnt play "Detlef Schrempf" dammit!!! LOL....
This was a great concert!! Great venue for all!! Music sounded great with the acoustics!! Loved the Band and there was a great opening act: Willowbe
I discovered this band at Coachella 2009. It was one of my top 3 concerts. I was still impressed by their concert in Pomona. I like the simplicity of the show, amazing music, great lightning effects with beautiful colors. Also, this theater offered a great acoustic, and a good view from different places. I would love to see them again, and would definitely recommend this band to see in concert and festival.
The title pretty much says it. This is not one of those bands that has a hard time duplicating their studio sound at a live event. Vocals come through clearly, (including those awesome harmonies that we all love Band of Horses for). The band is equally on top of their game. Is There a Ghost was, well, as a guy next to me yelled out, "That was RIGHTEOUS!" An up-tempo, shades of Johnny Cash, version of Window Blues was also a stand-out for me. Add in all the other favorites, plus some new songs that sounded great, and we got a really good show.
This Band Brings Energy, Class, & style. They Played to their Crowd. Great Music all around, even few a new songs. They leave it all out on stage and played a few more songs for the Fox Theater (a hard working band). The Pomona Crowd was alive! We loved and enjoyed every min. ! Thank you.
The best show I have seen this year! They don't make rock stars like that anymore. I felt like I was watching a young Almond Brothers w/ a little more rock and roll.
They are simply a great live act! You can feel the love they have for what they do. I just wish they played "I go to the barn..."
BOH at the HOB was awesome. Great set, awesome energy, receptive crowd. Not too crowded either, which was nice.
Band of Horses in this great little intimate setting was fan-friggin-tastic! Even after a whole day of Lollapalooza this band made my day! Glad I flew from Alaska for this!!!
