Amazing version of Romeo and Juliet

by Sparrowhawk on 3/5/20The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

Other than Nutcrackers, I only see a full ballet every two to three years. I do see modern dancing regularly at the Soraya. This non-classical Romeo and Juliet ballet left me stunned by how good it was, and by the reaction of the audience around me, I was not alone. It was a Valentine present for my wife (she goes to more ballets than I do) and she was equally impressed. Thank you Soraya and BC Ballet for opening my eyes to a modern style of this classic romance.

Tremendous performers, great choreography, reminds me of Crystal Paid in some parts. Fantastic venue first time there. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Blown Away!!!

by France on 3/3/20The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

What a performance!!! The art director and choreography was the best I've ever experienced ... and I attended many ballets in my lifetime. Their vision of what they wanted their audience to view was 100% successful! If I didn't have an appointment for Sunday afternoon, I would have gone to see it again. I'd love to see Ballet BC return in the future. Thank you!

by S. on 12/31/19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Witnessing Alberta Ballet’s Nutcracker this past Sunday night was a family treat. The quality of the production, the sets, the costumes and the dancing was so high and the overall crowd satisfaction was immense. Thank you!

    Extra-ordinary!

by Lj on 11/5/19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Busk was so engrossing, almost painfully beautiful in its starkness and the dancers physicality. I absolutely loved it, as did everyone around me. Then to shift into a very emotional, often humorous piece full of inspiring grace and physical strength but vulnerability too. Congratulations Ballet B.C.

A sensational performance of Program 1 on Friday Nov 1

by john of the islands on 11/4/19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The combination of Aszure Barton's BUSK and Johan Inger' BRISA made for an evening of intense dance with non-stop athleticism and precision. It was also thrilling to be in a full-house that was in tune with every step presented. Sensational dancers producing a feast for the audience. Bravo.

Another amazing evening with Ballet BC. Program 1 did not disappoint. I look forward to their upcoming events. I believe this is Emily Molnar's last season so I will take all opportunities to experience her vision, it has changed the way I appreciate Ballet.

Beautiful & surprising. A modern classic

    by t. c. on 5/12/19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This was a stunning, non stop, piece of modern ballet. Told in three parts, it keeps you engaged and guessing from beginning to end. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

    Not a fan of modern

by chelmac on 2/27/18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was difficult to tell that this was a modern ballet from the adverts. Not a fan of modern dance so would not go again, although I can appreciate the skill involved.

    Fabulous night at BalletBC

by Jorandle on 2/26/18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Romeo and Juliet was stunning. The marriage of the classical score with contemporary ballet worked bautifully. It was also wonderful to get swept up by the storyline from the beginning to the end of the evening. Different, yet equally wonderful to BalletBC’s usual programs of three separate one act ballets. You don’t need to be an aficionado of ballet to admire the raw athleticism of the dancers and the gorgeous creativity of the choreography.

    It was too Avant Garde

by 98264 on 5/14/17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I have been to two previous performances in recent years and saw similar ballets that were not the tutu kind of ballet. But this was too much of a free-for-all, each dancer doing what appeared to be his own choice. Barely choreographed. Dancers not looking at each other. Too much gymnastics. Running, jumping, twisting, turning. It was interpretive dance by a dance troupe, not a ballet company. The first two numbers were too long. The audience participants on stage were so good that it seemed rigged in advance.
