Los Angeles post-grunge outfit Badflower have gained a meaningful reputation for hard-hitting and melodic rock anthems covering themes around mental health and addiction. Comprising singer/guitarist Josh Katz, guitarist Joey Morrow, bassist Alex Espiritu, and drummer Anthony Sonetti, Badflower's tendency to address human vulnerability makes them a powerful example of how the hard rock genre has evolved in the 21st Century.
Formed in Northridge, California, in 2008, Badflower started out under the name the Cartunes with Katz and Morrow meeting in music school. They soon changed their name and recruited Espiritu and Sonetti to round out the lineup. After gigging around Los Angeles, Badflower found the attention of former NSYNC member Lance Bass, who plugged them on his SiriusXM radio show.
In 2013, Badflower released their debut EP, About A Girl. In 2016, Badflower released their second EP, Temper, via Hundred Handed Inc. The EP featured the single "Animal." In 2018, Badflower had a hit single with "Ghost," which unflinchingly discussed subjects like depression and self-harm.
"Ghost" found a significant audience and peaked at No. 11 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. "Ghost" was also certified Gold by the RIAA. "I was depressed and thinking about self-harm. So I just wrote it," Katz told Loudwire about "Ghost." "I played out the whole scenario and put it into a song because that's what writers do, I suppose. I didn't even know if it was gonna go on the album. I was sorta hesitant to even show it to the rest of my band, but everyone heard it and loved it."
In 2017, Badflower hit the road on the Rock 'N' Roll Now tour alongside Bleeker, Beware Of Darkness and Red Sun Rising. The same year, they began work on their debut studio album, 2019's OK, I'm Sick, which Loudwire named one of the 50 best rock albums of that year. In 2020, Badflower released "30" on Katz's 30th birthday.
Badflower followed up their debut with 2021's This Is How The World Ends, which featured the singles "Family," "Don't Hate Me," "Fukboi," and "Johnny Wants To Fight." Loudwire ranked This Is How The World Ends as the 38th best rock/metal album of 2021. Catch Badflower on tour when they come to a city near you.

Absolutely fantastic show. Out of the 20+ I’ve been too this was towards the top. Badflower played for ages, and sounded awesome, had some cool personal spontaneous moments with the crowd, pulled some unexpected moves and just generally were fantastic. The venue was also awesome. Super cool atmosphere, wonderful place. 9.5 our of ten for cleanliness, friendliness, ease, etc.
Great performance by a newer band. The singer was a very good entertainer! Would recommend anyone that likes rock to go see them. Only one a few of their songs but they had a lot of great other songs I haven't heard. I think the smaller venue enhanced the experience.
I have seen Badflower three times. These young men are the real deal. They are extremely talented, professional, and entertaining. If you want want to hear good music with raw, emotional lyrics, this would be the band to see. You will not be disappointed.
The venue was smaller, but clean and personal. There was not a bad spot in the place. But more importantly Badflower is awesome. This is the second time I have seen them and met them. They genuinely love what they do and they reflect that to the audience. I hope WHEN they get big they will keep that genuine love of performing. Thanks again Badflower!!!
Small venue made for very intimate show!! Josh fought through the after effects of bronchitis and sounded great. Joey, Alex and Anthony all brought their A game including Alex crowd surfing. Setlist was everything I could have dreamed to hear!!
Amazing night, the music was great. Definitely worth seeing live, any chance you get!!!
Every time I listen to Badflower, I am always shocked they are not more popular. Their music is addicting. They produce a sound that is captivating. Not only does each song rock hard, but they’re also full of emotion. You can hear it in Josh’s voice. It was truly a pleasure to see them live at the Wonder Bar. They played all of their music, mixed with some new material as well. They had an incredible amount of energy, a good sense of humor, and really had a good time performing. I also got to meet Josh after the show. He was such a genuine, nice guy. We chatted for a bit, and I asked if he’d come to Brooklyn sometime. He laughed and said, “Maybe.” If you’re into hard rock, I highly suggest checking Badflower out. They are the future.
Badflower is a special band that should be world famous some day. There music is so emotional and it is delivered with so much passion and pain. Love them!
Extremely impressed with this band. These guys are going places!!! Can't wait to see them again!
Great guys, super sweet and down to earth first off. They are amazing artists, the music and lyrics blow my mind, it's personal and real. HIGH energy, they give you everything and then some on stage whether it's 10 people or 10K in the crowd. They are bringing rock back with a personal edge that connects.
I knew these guys were good, but seeing them live was amazing.
