Nowhere to Go but up for Bad Omens
by Yevgeniya Chernykh on 9/30/23The Salt Shed - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5What started as "THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND"finding me on Instagram turned into this bona-fide millenial raised largely on pop having the time of her life at a Bad Omens concert at The Salt Shed.
Considering it all - the phenomenal production, the stadium-level sonics, the incredible energy of the two opener bands (I See Stars and ERRA - also two must-views!), the arena atmosphere and camaraderie of the crowd - I think these two things stand out most: the evident passion that this band has for their work, and the parallel passion that the fans show them. It was beyond memorable to see, and be a part of, these two elements coming together, where both the artists and their admirers were having fun and rocking out to their heart's desire.
For me, this whole experience has opened my ears to new genres and new artists. Plus, it gets a special accolade for being the only concert where, rather than the typical onset of post-concert sadness, I instead left with a mix of adrenaline, elation and peace (yes, I was also amused/confused by the irony of the latter).
As it relates to their recent social media stardom, don't believe the online hype - they are *far* better than any grainy few-minute videos could properly capture. At the risk of becoming an even bigger fan, don't hesitate and go enjoy them live for the full experience...before, inevitably, their crowds of thousands become crowds of ten-thousands and their shows get sold out even faster than they already do. :)
