About

Swedish DJ, song remixer and record producer Axwell specializes in EDM (electronic dance music), and has become one of the most sought-after acts in this genre. He is a four-time Grammy nominee for Best Remixed Recording and Best Dance Recording, and he has garnered a reputation in the DJ world of shaking things up through frequent collaboration with other singers, DJs and producers. Axwell's concerts are highly valued by ticket holders for their circus-like variety of singers and dancers, along with world-class dance music that inspires a rave-like party atmosphere. Events feature intricate laser light shows and thundering bass-heavy music that pours out of a vast array of speakers. His latest single, "I Am," has been strongly received and accompanies a well-produced music video.

Axwell began his musical journey at age nine when his first instrument was a drum kit. His aim was to produce all of his own music and beats, so he soon traded in his drum kit for a computer. He began releasing music in 2002, and his first break came along in 2004, when he released "Feel The Vibe." The song successfully put him on the map, peaking at No. 1 on the U.K. Dance Singles Chart and charting well in Finland and the Netherlands. The track is but one of many collaborations between the DJ and his contemporary mix masters, producers and singers. The hit "I Am" has reached the No. 1 spot on the Beatport EDM chart. Axwell's tours take him all around the globe, and he recently announced at a performance in the Philippines in which all proceeds of the event will be donated to victims of super typhoon Haiyan.

Cosmic Opera was an amazing experience!

Overall an unforgettable production that was visually and audibly amazing. My only sight disappointment was the lack of story line within the show.

    Cosmic Opera was amazing!!

by Angie242424 on 2/26/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Everything about the event was unique and unforgettable. The vibe was incredible, No ID, Thomas Gold, and Axwell were amazing performers and really got the crowd going wild, but in a good way. Definitely worth the 80$. The opera singers, dancers, and other performers were pretty cool too, I've never been to an event like that. Can't wait for the next one!

Amazing lights and sound. Obviously the largest investment was made there and it paid off. The "other" acts could have been much better integrated into the concert experience but on the whole a great show!

    cosmic opera - extremely overhyped

by Yonizzle on 2/26/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Event was hyped up to be some sort of out of this world electronic music/opera hybrid. In reality, it was just a pop-house show with very cool lighting. Nothing really out of the ordinary and Axwell's set was absolutely terrible.

    Axwell Cosmic Opera INDESCRIBABLE!!!

by EDMKev on 2/26/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

One of the best shows I have ever been to. AMAZING set, light show, opera performance, stage set-up! So much creativity. Thomas Gold was great as usual.

    Definitely worth experiencing

by bngnyc on 2/26/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

It was great that Axwell headlined. I had an awesome time and would go again but I don't think it was anything near Cirque du Soleil. It felt like any other show and it was too hyped up. I also expected a story line and there was none. There is lots of room for improvement and it has great potential.

    Pleasantly Different

by trevorjgeorge on 2/25/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

It was really awesome to go to an event and embrace house music like it should be. I am sick of warehouse parties with rave puppies and DJ's who simply play music to a bunch of LEDs. There was an incredible amount of lasers and moving lights, the theatrical elements of the opera singers, the contortionist, the dancers, the aerialists, the giant disco ball and custom made chandelier, and to top it off, it even snowed at the end of the night. Truly an amazing experience.

    Great Show!

by Allis0n on 2/25/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The light, venue, and music were all amazing. The few opera-like 'acts' that were included we're entertaining. I did expect a bit more of actual opera elements be incorporated but the music was the most important to me. The overdelivered with the music and lights!!!

Axwell was awesome. Hammerstein ballroom is a great venue forth is type of event. Size and layout work well. The "opera" portion of the event was a bit overhyped..

Not quite concert, rave, or opera. Disappointed.

by jkmanhattan on 2/25/12Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

It was fun, but the organization in terms of getting people in the door was atrocious, with some waiting 2.5 hours in a line outside after the music had already started. Thank goodness it wasn't horribly cold. As for the show, I loved the lasers, and the music was fun--for the first 3 hours. After that, everyone was getting bored--even the die hard ravers. The NY Times review has it dead on: the theatrical portion we were promised materialized for a brief promising minute--and then it ended, instead of going where it should have gone. The music wasn't good enough to stand on its own, and that's the most important thing of all. I may go again in the future, but my expectations will be drastically lowered.

    Axwell is GOD

by Ilyakovich on 4/27/11Roseland Ballroom - New York City

AXWELL! The biggest DJ in the world puts on the best show in the world. He rocked the house for THREE straight hours, no breaks, no intermissions, playing all the biggest hits and bombs along the way. There was no chance to slow down for a bathroom break or to get a drink because you didn't want to miss the next big hit. The lights were great, the confetti was great and the energy was unrivaled by any act. Only downside was all the 18 year olds making it amateur hour. Definitely go see Axwell and the rest of the Swedish House Mafia and do your best to ensure it's 21 to enter. SAVE THE WORLD!

    Great show

by Justyniak on 4/25/11Roseland Ballroom - New York

It was Axwell's night but the opening by Thomas Gold was that was truly amazing. As a matter of fact, I've seen Axwell play at Webster Hall and somehow I found that performance better. This past Saturday I truly fell in love with Thomas Gold. This review shouldn't be about the music though but about the show as a whole. And it was really fantastic. I've been to Roseland a number of times to see performances of Armin van Buuren, PvD, Kaskade and the likes and I know it's got huge capacity (comparing to other venues in NYC), phenomenal sound system (this time I lost my hearing for a day!) and interesting visual effects. Roseland Ballroom should be used more often to host big DJs - places like PACHA are usually oversold and way too crowded which makes the experience not so enjoyable. One flaw - bottled water poured into plastic cups. Hello? It's a house music show where you move and dance n jump all night long! How are you supposed to do that with a cup full of water?

    Axwell is GOD

by HillDog on 4/25/11Roseland Ballroom - New York

I've seen Axwell spin 4 times, and this was absolutely the best show that I've been to! He played every single song I could have asked for, and I keep remembering more songs that he played. He had the crowd going WILD and i didn't stop moving for a single second - even couldn't stop when he was finished at 4am. He's my absolute favorite DJ, not to mention he is SEXY! I can't wait to see him again! Only recommendation - please play a longer set next time! 3 hours really isn't enough!
