    college games

    by J. W. on 12/26/18BB&T Center - Sunrise

This is my 2nd year taking my 15 year old grandson to these holiday games. We both enjoy college basketball very much. However, if are going to return, the caliber of the teams selected to play FSU and Uof F needs to improve. I realize that so close to Christmas, it is difficult to get teams to come here. I also believe seats could be priced lower, to more increase the attendance.

Good games for a good venue

    by ApolloSeven11 on 12/19/17BB&T Center - Sunrise

The building itself is great. It has spacious halls and plenty of viewable seating. Only problem with the building is that it is out of the way of the population centers of South Florida. At least, the basketball games were very entertaining.

    Classic was great

by Duggla on 12/20/16BB&T Center - Sunrise

It was my first Classic game and it was wonderful. It was a little chilly but it is understandable since that is where the hockey team plays on the ice. The people that work there are very friendly and even though there was alcohol served no one misbehave. The 2 FL teams played very well and I was pleased they won.

    Basket Stanchion Delays...Oh My!

    by Denco1 on 12/22/15BB&T Center - Sunrise

The first game started 40 minutes because of a problem with the basket. Then, during the first game, a rim was bent and that further delayed the game. Having Florida and Florida State make sense. Oklahoma State was a good opponent. Don't schedule FAU. They don't bring fans or a good program with them. Another opponent from the Big Ten or SEC would add some more punch. The first game made the event drag,

It's always great to see UF play live in south florida, however, the BB & T center had several exists closed (perhaps due to holiday traffic) that made exiting the overpriced parking lot a nightmare for an event that was sparsely attended. Not sure i'll go back anytime soon.

Orange Bowl Committee Can Do More

by Snakeoil on 1/1/13BB&T Center (Formerly BankAtlantic Center) - Sunrise

This annual college doubleheader just lacks heart and soul. First of all it is not a tournament but a doubleheader. It would be far more attractive if the OB Committee lined up Florida, Miami, FSU and the best 4th team in the state for a true tournament. Have a Friday doubleheader and a Sunday final and consolation game. Make the teams bring their cheerleaders and pep bands. Franklly playing a basketball game with no mascots and no college hoopla in a cold hockey arena is like watching a scrimmage.

FSU won so we enjoyed the game. The facility was very good. The parking was expensive, but the tickets were reasonable.

    So Disappointing

by Justbored on 12/31/12BB&T Center (Formerly BankAtlantic Center) - Sunrise

First college basketball game I attended in a long time and pretty forgettable one at that. Originally from Philly so expectations were high as I recall the city series and double headers at the Palestra on Penn’s campus. The UF fans were the most pervasive but the small contingent from Tulsa was most vocal. The others were weak. Most noticeable was the lack of any school bands. And no cheerleaders. Neither was present any of the four schools. There was a constant barrage of advertisements from the announcer – reminded me of the Panther games at that arena. Felt bad for the announcer – he had to try and sell everything to a measly crowd of about 12,000. Suggestions: Do not let some local dance studio steal (probably by paying) time at the half with their ridiculous dance/signing routine. Every dad in that place was thinking the same thing: I remember having to sit through these shows with my daughter when she was seven or eight. Do not have just one contestant try from half court for a big prize. That was over in less than two-seconds. Consider adding a high school game or two earlier in the day – you’d sell a couple hundred more tickets to family and friends and you’d then have bands and cheerleaders (you could require) to stay over and entertain the crowd. What happened to the kind of jumbo-tron games the kids like – the silly races. And there was not even the kiss-cam…just a constant rolling of another genre of songs for the announcer to scream at people to get up and dance. And how about more local rivalries? Why not coordinate Miami playing also, or FAU, FIU, anybody else from FL like USF or UCF. The games were only competitive for a half until the FL teams woke-up and rolled over them. Get some better quality. They had the Air Force Falcons and no fight song! Where were all of the local service men – maybe a discount to bring them in. How about the lack of the National anthem before the second game? Or how about the lack of announcement about a returning service member attending the game. The ticket prices were not outrageous – food at the stadium was as was parking. But above all else do a better job on the court!

Event included waaayyy too much advertising!

by NolzGirl on 12/31/12BB&T Center (Formerly BankAtlantic Center) - Sunrise

We went to the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic with our boys - enjoyed both games (my husband is a Gator and I'm a Seminole) but will not go back to this event. The video advertisements, constant announcements about the event sponsors, etc. were way overblown and got to the point of annoying very quickly. Couldn't even go to the restroom without being forced to look at ads - they were on the backs of the bathroom doors! That, in addition to the $10 beers and $13 cheeseburgers was just too much!

    Not so Classic, but Worthwhile

by keynesian on 12/22/10BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

I go to the Basketball Classic almost every year under the banner of University of Miami. As a marketing expert of 30 years, I know that the event needs a better identity, although every year it seems to improve, notwithstanding UM's poor presence and support. The games for the kids on the court seem to go well, and contribute, but there isn't a "face" to the event. It doesn't yet feel like a coordinated event; just two basketball games that are back-to-back. University of Miami needs to understand better how to marketing itself in sports to the local audience. Ironically, the school has a national identity, and a poor local one!

My wife, brothers and myself had a great time at the Orange Bowl Classic. I think the only negative about the event was it was pretty darn cold inside the BAC considering it was a basketball game and not a hockey game. Also, the power outtage was a little irritating but did not ruin our mood since UCF beat UM.
