Truth be told, I have always been a huge Atlantic Starr fan, and the last time that I saw them perform live was easily 25 years ago or more at a soul festival. Knowing that the group no longer consisted of the original and spectacular female lead (Sharon Bryant), or the capable and familiar replacement (Barbara Weathers?, I think), as well as one of the important Lewis brother lead singers (David), I was a little leery of what I would see. Combine that with the "Unsung" episode that they did a few years ago (which seemed to suggest that they had disbanded), I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are still performing well (with a fine lead female vocal replacement and a suitable 2nd male lead performer). They performed most if not all of the HITS that I came to hear, and the roughly 90-minute set was tight and on point! If they come to your area (especially if they are playing at a small and intimate venue like The Birchmere), by all means, CHECK THEM OUT!!
