Atlanta Hawks History
The lineage of the Hawks dates to 1946, when, as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, they played in the NBA's forerunner, the National Basketball League. They moved to Milwaukee in 1951, shortening their name, and then to St. Louis in 1955. They made the NBA finals four times in a five-year stretch, defeating the Boston Celtics to capture the franchise's only title in 1958. In 13 seasons in St. Louis, the Hawks missed the playoffs only once.
After moving to Atlanta in 1968, the Hawks' postseason runs continued for five years, fueled by the likes of Pete Maravich, Lou Hudson and Walt Bellamy. In 1976, Ted Turner bought the team and installed Hubie Brown as coach, and by his second season, the team was again a playoff contender. The Dominique Wilkins era began in 1982, with "The Human Highlight Film" leading the team to four straight 50-win seasons beginning with the 1985–86 season.
The arrival of Dikembe Mutombo helped the Hawks continue to make postseason runs in the late 1990s, but the new millennium brought a difficult eight-year dry spell. That ended with the 2007–08 season, the first of 10 consecutive years in which they earned a playoff berth.
In 2018, the team drafted Trae Young. He led the team with 29.6 points and 9.3 assists per game in his second season. During the 2021–22 regular season, Young led all of the NBA in total points (2,155) and total assists (737). During the postseason, the Atlanta Hawks went on an incredible playoff run, led by Young, that saw them advance to the Eastern Conference Finals where they lost to eventual NBA Champions Milwaukee Bucks.

We had an amazing time. We will be doing it again. Staff was friendly. Food was amazing.
Not sure if this is for open practice or Hawks vs. Cleveland. Both experiences were awesome.
How do you have open “practice”, and didn’t even scrimmage? Took longer to get to the arena and park, than time spent watching “practice”
State Farm Arena had reasonable concession prices last season, similar to Mercedes Benz Stadium next door. However, those times are gone. $7.50 for a single hotdog? $8.50 for a small soda?! How am I supposed to bring a family of 4 to a Hawks game when nosebleed tickets are $50 each and it costs $100 for food. I sure hope the team is less disappointing than the concession prices this season.
It was really a dope experience. Family enjoyed it.
Enjoyed the game and food, it was too cold in the gym so I will make sure I have my sweatshirt tonight!
Loved watching the guys have a good time. They appear to be quite connected with each other. Looking forward to this season
Best Ever!!! Best seating front row and I met exciting people from Oregon,we had so much fun!!!! I’ll Be Back—-Hawks Fan Forever
There was no scrimmage or winner of the talent show like last year
It was so much fun to be able to sit so close and see the new and returning players for this year’s season.. I love how they make the rookies do a talent show.. This was my second time coming to the practice game.. keep it up as it is always a fun experience
I would like to extend my gratitude to the Hawks organization for arranging an event of this nature. Providing an open practice at a very affordable cost was especially beneficial for parents facing financial constraints, making it possible for them to participate in an event that might otherwise be financially challenging. This type of access to the players offered a fantastic means of keeping fans and the community actively engaged.
I had a blast at the Hawks practice. It was entertaining.
Trae Young is a goat, Food was good. Amazing Ice trae
The draft party was fun! I had a great time! I'm looking forward to this season.
Exciting game against Boston. Seats and amenities were A1. Entertainment was awesome. Fans on both sides were Fun, polite and engaging.
entertainment food and people was great easy access in and out
State Farm Arena has great food options and great friendly staff. We had a wonderful time and would recommend a Hawks game to everyone. The facility had a lot of security and made you feel safe. The music and DJ also was great and the performance were great at the last game no performance at the first game but the tees and towels were also nice. Atlanta showed up and showed out looking forward to the 2024 season. Go Hawks!!!!!!
I wasn’t able to watch the game without watching a tv near the concession stands. I didn’t expect so many standing room tickets to be sold. There were people rows deep anywhere that had standing options to watch. Had to leave early to watch the game from a bar because it was less than enjoyable continuously searching for a spot with a view of the court.
We had a really great evening watching by the first time an NBA game. Huge and very well organized event!
