Atlanta Falcons Team History

The Atlanta Falcons joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1966. Since their start, they’ve won six division championships and have appeared in two Super Bowl games (1999 and 2017). The Falcons began play in the former Georgia Dome in 1992, where they defeated all other 31 NFL teams at least once during their time there. In 1998, they had their best season to date, finishing 14-2 and winning the NFC West.

The Falcons played their final game at the Georgia Dome on January 22, 2017, beating the Green Bay Packers 44-21 to win the division title. Upon completion of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Falcons opened their new home with a preseason game in August 2017.

Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Located in Atlanta, the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) opened in 2017. Built as a replacement for the Georgia Dome, Mercedes-Benz Stadium was constructed completely with the fan experience in mind. Wide concourses give fans the ability to freely move around the stadium on any level.

MBS is one of the most sustainable and environmentally-conscious sports venues in the world. After achieving LEED Platinum certification upon completion in 2017, MBS focused on implementing operations to create a zero waste environment. As part of its sustainability initiatives, MBS developed and implemented a variety of green practices, such as water conservation, energy conservation, recycling and compost, alternative transportation, an urban garden, and agriculture programs.

MBS became the first sports and entertainment venue to achieve LEED Zero certification in any category which can only be achieved if a venue has achieved LEED Platinum, and the first Stadium worldwide to achieve official TRUE Platinum certification for zero waste. The diverted materials are reduced, reused, recycled, composted and/or recovered to curb the Stadium's overall environmental footprint.

The stadium was clean. The staff was beyond friendly. The atmosphere was festive. Probably hands down the nicest facility I have visited for a game or event. Lines moved fast.

  • The view from 206 was better than expected

by PapaT on 10/16/25Mercedes-Benz Stadium - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I brought my two grandkids and we had a good time in section 206, row 12! The only negatives were a bar behind us and therefore around us were people who heavily drank. Unfortunately, had to deal with a rude one immediately following the anthem. But after that I didnt have any other incidents.

  • Beautiful Stadium

The stadium was beautiful. The staff was pleasant and willing to help. Because the roof was closed, it was kinda cold but I prefer that over being hot and sweaty.

Took my family it was a blast seeing them enjoy the stadium for the first time. Parking was a nightmare though, and we missed kickoff which was a bummer. Won’t be able to go this time, I have 4 tickets don’t know if anyone wants them. If you want ‘em, hit me up. First come, first served.
