Asia not as good as past shows

by DeeJ8675309 on 8/8/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

I have to be honest. Never seen anyone at House of Blues at the Showboat in Atlantic City before. I had Floor seats, but was way off in the corner, the map of the seating was not accurate. Could only see about 3/4 of the stage. We were allowed to move just because this event was not even close to being sold out and probably for good reason. Too much newer stuff, some was good, some was just ok. Past shows were much better when they played pretty much the entire first and second albums. They also used to play one song from each of their respective bands, not this time around, which was very disappointing. They are band from the past and should continue to play that way. I listen to rock stations and their new stuff isn't even rotation. So it was a shock to me about the new album. If they want to become major players again, they HAVE to get on the radio again, and then maybe can play some bigger venues.

    ASIA-They still Rock!

by bytor1325 on 8/8/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Saw them in Virginia when there first album came out and was blown away back then. Now almost 30 years later the original band lineup is back together for the "OMEGA" tour. They have not skipped a beat! Carl Palmer is awesome to watch, the man makes it look effortless. Geoff Downes on keyboards is legendary. With 8 keybaords I was thinking to myself do we really need a lead and bass guitar. Steve Howe on lead is still going strong albeit a lot older but he still kicks ass on guitar. Last John Wetton on vocals and bass- well what can I say HE IS ASIA! The sound was as good as was 30 years ago with more songs in the lineup and the OMEGA album is excellent. If they could get the airplay again this band could rise again from the ashes like the PHOENIX! pun intended.

Asia is going strong after all these years!

by Theo22 on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Asia put on another great show at Westbury with a mix of classics and songs from their two recent albums. Unlike recent tours, they dispensed with the covers of songs from their previous bands (Yes, King Crimson, ELP, The Buggles) and only played Asia songs. Their new songs were surprisingly strong, especially Holy War, which was an amazing performance. Carl Palmer's drum solo was also astounding and was basically a combination drum solo and circus act. Some surprising song choices included Go and Days Like These as Steve Howe didn't play on the original recordings (but he did a great job). John Wetton's voice was also in good form. The only negative comment was that the show was a little short -- 2 hours including a 20 minute intermission. Another few songs would have been appreciated. Also, it would have been nice for Geoff Downes to get a solo, even a short one. It's also a little tiring that they always close with Heat of the Moment. It would be nice if they did that a bit earlier and closed on a less predictable song. Regardless, Asia puts on a great show and they're all still fantastic musicians. I'll definitely keep seeing them so long as they keep touring.

    Asia was Awesome!!!

by DonWally on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Each member of Asia is a long standing superstar in their own right. Combine them together and you have a band of extraordinary talent and abilities that will blow you away. The old music sounds as fresh and vibrant as ever and the songs off of their new album are filled with the stuff that great classic music is made of. John Wetton's voice was as perfect as it ever was. He's still got it after all these years. Steve Howe was like a mad musical genius playing the guitar with flawless abandon in a style that is very much his own. Geoff Downes was super on keyboards and background vocals as always. His adept keyboard ability adds so much to the music and compliments Steve Howe's guitar playing perfectly. Finally, what can one say about Carl Palmer on drums that hasn't already been said? To watch him play drums is awe inspiring. He is like a human drum machine pounding the skins with uncompromisable precision. His drum solo drew the crowd to it's feet for a well deserved standing ovation. My recommendation to anyone who has not yet had the opportunity to see Asia in concert, get yourself tickets and get to a show as soon as possible. This is one show you won't want to miss!

    Asia was great

by dontwannabeacowgirl on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I went there not knowing what to expect. I don't really remember the band growing up as a kid. Heat of the Moment was the best song and the only one that I really knew. Their new songs were very nice. Good crowd. The Westbury theatre is a great small venue. Carl Palmer was excellent as well as the other members of the group. I would definitely see them again.

    Asia is still awesome

by richkasiafan on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Great concert. John Wetton still has his voice!! Carl Palmer is hands down the greatest drummer on the planet; his solo was absolutely incredible and unforgettable!! Steve Howe playing two guitars during a couple of songs was unbelievable; his solo was also ridiculouly great. Geoff Downes, from Buggles to Asia, is one hell of a keyboardist!

    Asia was amazing!

by limike on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

These guys are amazing. John Whetton's voice blew me away. He sounds just like when he was with King Crimson. Carl Palmer drums like he's still 24 years old. Geoff Downes gets better at keyboards as he gets older. There is nothing to say to describe Steve Howe. Simply outstanding,! Always was and always will be the greatest guitar virtuouso in the buisness. I saw them last tour and I enjoyed when they mixed some King Crimson, Yes, and ELP songs into the show. This show was all Asia (nothing wrong with that) but I would have loved to have seen them do Court of The Crimson King again. It was a major highlight last time. No complaints, they put on a magnificent show..

by Airman1 on 8/7/10Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Palmer dropped his stick, but he's so fast not everybody noticed. Steve gets better with age. the overall performance was great! The concert was one of the best I have seen in a long time.

I've never, EVER, witnessed a drum solo like Carl Palmer's this concert and I've seen a LOT of great drummers...I've been baptized.

Band in Nearly Perfect Form - Sound Techs Sucked

by nicelp3 on 8/6/10Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe

I haven't seen Asia since 1982 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The band was in great form - I appreciate Asia far more after seeing them. (I'm more of an ELP fan than an Asia fan.) , but the sound techs seemed to have it all wrong, as far as balancing the various parts of the band and with the sheer volume. I don't know if the sound techs were locals at Penn's Peak or hired by the band, hopefully the former. If they were hired by the band they need to be fired. Asia:10 Stars Sound Techs: -10 Stars

    An evening with Asia.

by Nevine on 8/6/10Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe

I loved it. Super music, John still has his voice, and Carl is as good as any drummer out there, and was very enthusiastic. Steve is my favorite guitarist, and YES is my favorite group, but at times he seemed somewhat bored. Think of the music, tours and years he has experienced. Overall I think they were very good, but the crowds are older, and maybe do not seem as into it, but we are, we just show it differently. Overall, great show.

    Asia was amazing

by sassy18064 on 8/6/10Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe

Asia is back and better than ever! The group rocked the house. John's voice was incredibly strong and emotive, especially on the acoustic numbers. Geoff was a showman as usual, and Carl's drum solo brought people to their feet. As usual, Steve's playing was right on. They rearranged some of their staple songs, which was a refreshing change, and included songs from all of their albums, including Phoenix and Omega. Loved the show and wish they were playing close by again. Only downside was that the show only lasted 1h 45m.

    Arising from the ashes!

by BeAGoodDay on 8/6/10Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe

I enjoyed ASIA's initial short term existence, & am so excited about their Phoenix return - arising from the ashes! Having never seen them live, my moderate expense was well worth it. I'm accustomed to the more serious & sedate moods of YES concerts. ASIA is a very audience-interactive motivated group which makes the concert a funtastic time. Our comparison of Steve Howe's performance behaviour (between YES & ASIA) was also interesting & fun. Only complaint is that the amps were too loud to the point of over riding John Wetton's voice/word deciphering - par for concerts, but not necessarily a good thing Martha Stewart. Re/ Penn's Peak, we're certainly not in Philly anymore Toto; a fabulous view from the mt. clouds of the Lehigh Valley. The facility is very nice & worth the trip.

    Asia Omega Tour 2010

by mc82066 on 8/6/10Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe

I have seen this band a total of 6 times including during the Alpha tour in 1983. Each time, they just seem to get better and better. The four of these musicians together is perfection on stage. The chemistry is unbelievable. Thank god they settled their differences and decided to reunite. John Wetton sounded better than he has ever sounded and Carl Palmer is a machine on the drums. Geoff Downes is always the showman and Steve Howe has to be one of the best guitarists one will ever see on stage. The addition of "Go" and "Days Like These" along with the hits "Heat Of The Moment", "Only Time Will Tell", and "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (Extended Version)" was a special treat. Go see this band!!! You will not be disappointed!
