by acd on 10/18/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthCha Wa blew our minds! This mix of funk/blues/rock and other genres is like nothing I have heard before. The band had so much energy and people couldn’t help dancing. There was also education about the Mardi Gras Indian tribe between songs that was extremely interesting and inspiring. We were a party of 6 and we all agreed we are going to follow Cha Wa and make sure we see them if they come near the Boston area again. I had never heard Cha Wa and am not a big funk fan; I was floored and loved every beat.

Self-described as “New Orleans brass band meets Mardi Gras Indian”, this band gets you up and dancing as soon as they hit the stage. From classic Mardi Gras Indian tunes to those that are reminiscent of the sounds of Parliment Funkadelic to their latest BLM-inspired anthem “My People”, their sets are joyous and inspiring. Cha Wa is an experience you don’t want to miss. Cha Wa!
