Blood Red Shoes on Tour

Since 2005, Brighton-based alternative rock duo Blood Red Shoes have energized crowds on both sides of the pond with an ever-evolving sound ranging from punk rock to experimental synth-rock. Laura-Mary Carter (vocals/guitar) and Steve Ansell (vocals/drums) take concertgoers on a unique musical journey, at times instigating a mosh pit with their energized guitar riffs and driving drum beats before setting a more mellow vibe with moody vocals and ethereal synths. After spending three years on separate sides of the pond, the pair reunited to produce their sixth album, 2022's GHOSTS ON TAPE, and kick off a much-anticipated international tour. Their return performances might surprise fans, not only due to a more mature and polished reinvention of what Blood Red Shoes sounds like, but because GHOSTS ON TAPE delves into a definitively more gothic tone. With performances of tracks like "COMPLY" and "DIG A HOLE," concertgoers can expect a musical exploration of the human psyche that dives into the dark world of murder and serial killers.

Blood Red Shoes Live in Concert

After their previous bands disassembled, Laura-Mary Carter and Steve Ansell decided to have a jam session one fortuitous night in 2004. That meeting of musical talent would lead to the formation of the genre-bending duo Blood Red Shoes, named after a dance rehearsal mishap in which Ginger Rogers' danced until her white satin shoes were bloody. Like Ginger, Blood Red Shoes ride the line of being edgy and approaching their art form with true dedication. Since their debut EP 7" in 2005, each of the following six albums has been a side-step at least and a reinvention at most of what the band sounds like entirely. With close to two decades behind them, the pair has formed their own Jazz Life record label and performed at hundreds of small venues and renowned international festivals like Glastonbury and Lowlands. In 2019, they were tapped to support the legendary Pixies on their European tour. The band has also received some nods from Hollywood, with "It's Getting Boring by the Sea" appearing in the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (apparently Director Edgar Wright is a fan) and "Colours Fade" in season eight of "CSI: NY."

Huge sound from two amazing people!

    by WickedD365 on 8/7/23

This is my third time being able to see Blood Red Shoes this year and I would gladly pay to see them three more times if given the opportunity. It's crazy that two people make such huge sound from just a guitar and a drum kit. Been a fan since I discovered them on the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack (Thank you for that Edgar Wright) and have loved them since. If you enjoy a great show and awesome tunes, check out BRS!!

Awesome performance by a fabulous duo! We saw them twice before; opening for Badflower in St Louis and Nashville. It was wonderful to see them return to STL as a headliner ❤️

    Great talent

    by C. S. on 12/6/22

These two are something else! Just watching Steven playing the drums is entertaining enough. And Laura Mary is bad ass too. Big sound with just one guitar and a set of drums. Don’t miss seeing them!

    Blood Red Shoes Muddied

by Allen1840 on 5/18/14Mercury Lounge - New York

Blood Red Shoes was not well served by a music system amped way too high. Hard to hear lyrics even standing at back of room. This group would have been well served by a little clarity from time to time. Seems like no adjustments were made from opening act's monotonous assault on our ear drums.

Blood Red Shoes at Great Scott

by HumanoidLifeform on 5/16/14Great Scott - Allston

The show was very intimate. I was literally at arm's length from the band during their set, and because of the small crowd and laid-back atmosphere of the venue, I was able to meet and chat with both members of Blood Red Shoes. They were very friendly, and took their time talking to fans, taking photos, and signing autographs. I'm not sure if it was Great Scott's gear or the bands', but the speakers sounded a bit muddy (the vocals were difficult to distinguish), and there was some technical difficulty with the musicians' earpieces. The show itself was incredible, with high-energy performances from both Radkey and Blood Red Shoes. Overall an unforgettable night. Good venue, great bands.

Blood Red Shoes are what Rock is about!

by Anonymous on 10/30/10Grog Shop - Cleveland

Blood Red Shoes put on a phenomenal rock show. From the opening with It's Getting Boring by the Sea to the closer of Colours Fade, with every song they put forth great energy that really drove the show forward. Both members of Blood Red Shoes were about the floor before and after their performance to chat with and they are really excellent people on top of being excellent performers. Of the openers: Trans Atlas wasn't my cup of tea and Starlazer was alright for the strange performance that they put on. Sky Larkin was also quite excellent and I would have paid to see Sky Larkin alone. Sky Larkin was joining Blood Red Shoes on what was both their first USA tour, coming here from the UK. If you ever have a chance to catch Blood Red Shoes or Sky Larkin, take it!
