I had the privilege of attending a Colossal Street Jam concert, a band out of Red Bank, at the Vogel and I was just blown away!! Make no mistake, they are a loud and powerful rock & roll band, with a light show that will assault all of your senses!! What an awesome band of absolutely phenomenal entertainers!! I just had to share my experience with everyone.
The music and vibe that was created is not something that you see anywhere else in 2021. They are a 5 piece band, playing original music, along with a few that pay tribute to their influences, who just kept the party going the whole night!! Everyone was talking about how amazing the show was. This band is quite capable of playing a small club or filling an arena and putting on a show worthy of that space. They are simply amazing and I could go on forever here!!
It is all about the music for this band and they are all masters of their craft. If I could sum up the show in one sentence, I would say that it was all about the love and power of rock and roll, and the rawness, played to perfection by some amazing artists that just get it.
Gene is a truly talented and hard-working front man, who kept the crowd engaged and entertained. He is everything that you could ask for in a vocalist, delivering hard, classic rock, soul vibe, with precision and a grit that will send you back to the music of yesteryear in an original and awe inspiring way. I felt as though I was watching a Paul Rogers/Mark Farner/insert your favorite 70’s vocalist show, in their prime. He just did it effortlessly, while maintaining an ultra-smooth stage presence. Gene could give anyone a hard run for their money.
The guitarist, Sal absolutely blew my expectations, he is the musical backbone of the group. There is no stage that can hold Sal. He was spot on in his solos and I simply loved his voice & harmonies on so many songs. He sings in perfect pitch with Gene and you can tell that this band has been playing together for a long time, perfecting their craft. Such a master! Hard to say enough about him.
The drummer, Dave was powerful and in the pocket all night. It is a joy for me to watch him play and hear the complexity of his rhythms.
Tony is a bassist that is wonderful to hear, and hear so clearly. He and Dave lead the way, lay down the groove and let everyone else into it. It really is something to watch and experience.
What can I say about Eric, the keyboard/organist? Eric is simply amazing!! He creates sounds with his Hammond that fill the room. It’s impossible not to watch him!! Truly mesmerizing as he plays, bangs, beats and tips his instrument as I have never seen before. Inventive, powerful at the right moments, adding just the right touch at lovely quiet moments. Wow!
You know, we have terrific music here in New Jersey, some of the very best in the world IMHO, and this band deserves their place among the very best of them. Everyone was on their feet dancing, and singing to their music. The band made the best of the smaller venue space, giving a performance that was both lively and personal. It was a fun show from start to finish! This was the best concert I have attended in a long, long time. Do not miss the opportunity to see this band when they are playing throughout the East Coast and Europe. I can promise that you will not be disappointed!!
