About

In Her Own Words on Tour

In Her Own Words is an emo/pop-rock band from Los Angeles.

They released their first EP, Brand New Me, in 2010, followed by Everything I used To Trust in 2013 and the six-song Bad Weather in 2015. After that, they signed with InVogue Records and released Unfamiliar in 2016 and Steady Glow in 2019.  Since then, they've been on DIY tour circuits promoting their work.

They switched labels and released Distance or Decay under Thriller Records in 2022. Distance or Decay includes the fun and whimsical single "Circles" featuring Derek DiScanio of State Champs (the video is a hoot), and the heart-wrenching "Raining In Toronto" featuring Jonathan Vigil from The Ghost Inside. They wrap the album up with a touching acoustic ballad featuring up-and-coming singer/songwriter Sierra Annie. They used the forced break in 2020-21 to concentrate their efforts on what they consider their best work yet, and it shows on this album.

Their music has garnered more than 20 million streams and has an international following.

A live performance by In Her Own Words offers the energy of intense instrumentals with the intimacy of delicately personal lyrics.

In Her Own Words Live in Concert

In Her Own Words (IHOW) are Joey Fleming (vocals), Ian Berg (guitar), Andretti Almalel (guitar), Eric Ruelas (bass), and Omar Sultani (drums). They're based in Los Angeles.

Berg's interest in music was sparked early on by his father, who handed him a guitar. He was also inspired by several '80s bands, including Cheap Trick. He performed his first show with his father at age 11 and was hooked.

He formed IHOW by recruiting members on MySpace. From his MySpace recruits, he held auditions for the role of vocalist, which is how he found Fleming. He recruited Sultani for drums, and Sultani brought in Ruelas on bass.

In an interview with Ghost Killer Entertainment, they explained how they approach the writing process for albums: "We spend about two weeks locked away in some far-away place -- away from all the distractions of real life, and we focus on writing the best songs possible in a scenic and peaceful setting. Distance or Decay was written initially in Paso Robles, California, and we had a great time out there."
