Lloyd Cole's acoustic performance at the Magic Bag was one of the best shows I've seen. His velvety voice and extreme guitarsmanship left me wanting more.
He played solo for the first quarter of the show and after a break, was joined by two other guitarists. They played a combination of guitar, mandolin and banjo, without any other instruments. He sang songs from just about every era of his career, even though this was not billed as a greatest hits show. Commotions songs included Perfect Skin, Are You Ready to be Heartbroken, Forest Fire, Rattlesnakes, Cut Me Down and Lost Weekend.
Songs from his solo career included Margo's Waltz, Butterfly, Don't Look Back, No Blue Skies, Undressed and Woman in a Bar. The songs from his new album are a little more folksy, and completely wonderful.
And that voice. I can't wait for him to come back.
