I have enjoyed the music by Helmet for over 30 years, but never imagined I would see them live, so when they came to Portland, Maine I jumped at the chance. The unique vocalizations and guitar playing by Page Hamilton really translated well to a live performance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was also my first time at the Aura nightclub and it was a great venue to hear Helmet at.
Doors open at 7pm. No information regarding set times. It’s now 855pm, no sight of the band. My advice, don’t get there on time!
Best concert I have been to all year. Could have listened to the two guitarists all night.
Show was amazing, and St. Andrew's hall, was very clean and it sounded great.
One of those we can´t forget! In the small intimate venue at the Hard Rock Hotel, sound and lighting were perfect for heavy spanking noise. The band was having fun all the time playing as hard as they could and having strong interaction with the audience. Almost 2 hours of all the classics and some new stuff, including a Black Sabbath cover. The show started with lots of songs without break and then Page Hamilton started to talk with the audience between songs with bitter humor, aggressive statements, self humiliation, sarcasm. A lot of empathy and authenticity watered by beer and scotch. After a tireless session, the just dropped the guitars in heavy feedback noise and left the stage for some minutes to have more booze and then got back with even more energy for a few more songs and crazy talk. So much fun!
Helmet was good, though they played more of their newer stuff than their much better, older stuff. As most bands are they were louder than ideal, but not as bad as some other bands I've seen. I don't really get why the doors opened at 7 and the band started at 8:30. 8:00 would've been better, but at least Helmet was the only band playing.
Wow. I’ve seen HELMET several times ( & been a huge fan ) over the last 20+ years, but this last show in Atlanta was amazing. Seeing Page solo on every song in front of a small crowd was a wet dream. Loved the intimate venue at Underground. Loved HELMET playing without an opening band. Once in a lifetime show. Glad I was there.
Great to see Helmet touring for their 30th anniversary and kicking butt doing it! They played a 30 song set with no warmup act and it was great. Excellent groovy metal for 2+ hours, and they played different sets in the two tour stops I saw.
We wanted a unique experience while visiting Boston from Canada. The Paradise Rock Club was an great intimate club to see Helmet. Also based off audience feedback Helmet played In The Meantime twice. Love this song! After the show, Page Hamilton took the time to meet and greet fans and sign autographs! Thank you Helmet for a GREAT unique experience in Boston! You did not disappoint! You rocked our expectations! Thank you!
Great sound, set list, and vibe. What I loved the most was how close the band was to the crowd. Small joint for an intimate display of energy.
I thought they sounded better last year when I seen him at the Brighton music Hall but they played 30 songs but I think they could have picked some better ones for the set out of all those 30
Loved the venue. Loved the band. Helmet was loud and just kept coming at you til the end. Will see them again.
Their brand should last and last. Mosh pit got frenzied on the greatest hits. Outstanding.
It kicked ass, plenty of good places to stand but full. Bathrooms clean. Drinks expensive though. Good back bar and Becky is an excellent bartender. The Prong drummer was so into it, loved that. Bass player for prong very engaging and he and the drummer are funny to watch. Great with the crowds. They keep the walkways clear. good system for a smaller place, but they should amp up there exhaust and fans in there as it get's hot when you have been drinking, it's packed full of people and bright lights from stage. Helmet kicked ass, Prong kicked ass, I drank too much and it rocked!!! Helmet kept cranking the songs out when we wanted more and it was awesome. All that was missing was Phil Anselmo and Pantera. Still bringing it down hard boys, love small venues and being up close to the bands, brings me back to the 80's when things were more intimate and hardcore..I would def go to that location again, it's a cool club like Royale. We need it more in Boston. Not a cheap Uber ride from DT Boston area, though. VERY GLAD I WENT AND THE EXPERIENCE WAS FUN. I even got a Prong drumstick..YAY!!!! Everyone is friendly there and professional/ Doorguys, bartenders, security.
Great show, good venu with clean and remodeled bathrooms.
Concert & Venue we both amazing! I will definitely go back to The Varsity Theater!
Awesome show! This was their last show of the tour in the US. They did not disappoint!
Excellent show. Fantastic accessibility to the band post show. Helmet sounded great and played the same. I was able to shake each band members hand when the concert ended. See this concert.
