Janet Jackson in Concert
Janet Jackson's singular path through R&B and pop has been defined by her no-nonsense attitude and desire to change the world. Her State of the World tour was a much-heralded return to the spotlight, with crowds all over the globe reveling in her run-through of hits, from the chart-topping burst of energy "When I Think of You" to selections from her triumphant 2015 comeback ‘Unbreakable.'
Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1966, Janet is the youngest member of the superstar-studded Jackson family. She made her initial splash on the small screen, playing Penny on the groundbreaking sitcom ‘Good Times' and appearing on '80s TV smashes like ‘Diff'rent Strokes' and ‘Fame.' In 1982 she branched out into music, although she wouldn't truly come into her own until 1987. That year she released ‘Control,' a blistering, genre-defying album that showed off her silvery soprano and tough-as-nails attitude. Her tender side shone through on "Let's Wait Awhile" and other ballads, but on other tracks she wasn't afraid to take aim at overbearing collaborators, "Nasty" boys, or anyone else who might get in her way.
‘Control,' which unleashed five Top 10 singles, set the tone for Jackson's discography, which blended provocative, socially conscious lyrics with forward-thinking music that spanned genres and styles. During the '90s, Jackson racked up six chart-topping hits — including the simmering "That's the Way Love Goes," the joyous "Together Again," and the hard-rocking "Black Cat" — that all embraced different aesthetics, showing off various facets of her personality and wide-ranging musical interests. In the 21st century, Jackson has remained an inspiration for younger artists and a guiding light for audiences, releasing singles like the blippy "Doesn't Really Matter" and the sultry J. Cole collab "No Sleeep." On tour, she proves that she's still a strong, thoughtful woman, reeling off her dozens of hits while flaunting her still-sleek — not to mention culturally iconic — dance moves.
The state of Janet Jackson's world is in excellent shape, thanks to her ruling it with a defiantly independent spirit and undeniably great music. Give her a beat.
Great Show, Janet played all o the Hits, with a Tight Band. Sound was great, and puts on a show worth seeing.
Janet Jackson is UNBELIEVABLE! What a concert!!! Love this venue! Not only is it my favorite place to attend a concert in Hawaii it’s very organized. Friendly employees and you can always find someone close by. Sound system is always professional and that makes famous entertainers comfortable to come to Hawaii. That’s amazing. We are lucky. If I had to make a suggestion it would be to put random portable pottys around to help with the long lines and congestion in the restrooms. Serving alcohol beverages has contribute to frequent usage and long lines. Makes for a less stressful experience. Total bliss
Whenever we are fortunate to have Janet perform in Hawaii .. .she "always"gives a full production🥲🤗🤌👌🤙👏🏿🫶❣️....something we rarely get on the islands because shipping props, tech lighting and screens always brings it down less of a production. She gives her all!!! and we appreciate and ALOHA/LOVE her so much! HAWAI'I LOVES JANET!!!❣️💗❣️
Parking - could improve the after concert traffic flow. Arena - security procedures were well organized and flowed smoothly. Venue was clean and inviting. May need to find a way to stagger on the floor seating. A great deal of folks stood almost the entire concert blocking the view of the stage. There were some elderly folks who had an obstructed view.
A wonderous time to watch her Live ! Great show an Amazing performance
Seats were great for both the Friday and Sunday event. Although not everyone danced, I did my share to bring back those memories of the “good ole days” Simply Awesome!
It was amazing!! Janet is the best she always puts on an awesome performance!!
Her concert was awesome!!! It was one of the best I’ve been to in a long time.
Would go and see her again. I love nostalgic concerts. It was a great night!
The Bass was way too loud and drowned out Janet. In fact, the Bass and Drums drowned out the whole affair. The Vocals, the Guitar and Keys were buried. The show was mostly an electronic performance production, not a good musical performance.
and deciding for me that her purple caped entrance was in solidarity with women, symbolizing "wit"/wisdom/healing/harmony ~ Mahalo, Janet for your love, brilliance, & generosity towards Lahaina & Hawaii!
Great concert! All the favorites!! Really took me back! Thanks for a great show
Janet Jackson concert was fun, sound was great, crowd was good and she was phenomenal!!! She still has it after 50 years as a performer!!
The concert was great and Janet Jackson was amazing as always. The disappointment I had was that I bought riser seats but when showed to my seats, surprisingly they were on the floor. Everyone shown to their seats in my section, asked about it. The worker said it was a merchandising change to fit more seats in. This is NOT OK to change the advertised riser seats to floor seats. I would have purchased seats else wear as I am a tiny person and had to stand the entire show to see anything. I and everyone in my section deserve a refund for not getting what we purchased.
Janet put on a great show of her greatest hits!!! She’s an ultimate superstar and performer!!
We thought Janet was great, both singing and dancing, but the base was up so loud (especially in the beginning), that there were times you couldn’t hear her or the music. Definitely disappointing considering how much we paid for floor seats. On the third show in Hawaii, you think they would have learned how to work the sound in that venue.
I haven’t seen Janet in concert since Jan 30th 1999. So I had to see her 1 more time. It was so awesome. I enjoyed my night with my friends. And so old friends that I haven’t seen for awhile. Maybe should have had an opening act.
Very disappointed in the sound system. We could feel the bass but couldn't hear janet jackson. Especially for most of the songs. For the amount that we paid, we expected better
All in all Janet Jackson was good! Disappointed that there was no merchandise for Sunday’s show
LOVED the entire show! So many classic/iconic songs and nostalgia vibes. I sang along with Janet Jackson!
