About

TROUBLE FUNK IN CONCERT:

Trouble Funk has been making booties shake with their dance-worthy jams and party-starting live shows for more than three decades. The band specializes in a regional brand of DC-based funk known as go-go, a jam-based subgenre that features blaring horns, a conga-heavy rhythm section, and extensive call-and-response vocals. At Trouble Funk's rowdy, participatory live shows, the band shouts out classic tunes like "Hey Fellas" and "Pump Me Up" while the audience plays their part by howling back their responses as they dance to the infectious grooves. Trouble Funk is first and foremost a live band, and ticket buyers lucky enough to catch them in action are in for a boogie-filled night of unrivaled go-go goodness.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Trouble Funk formed in Washington DC in 1978, joining a small but growing group of bands pioneering a regional style of funk known as go-go. They made their recording debut in 1981 with the live album Straight Up Funk Go-Go Style, a jam-fueled romp that perfectly captured the spirit of their groove-heavy live shows. They followed up in 1982 with their first studio album Drop the Bomb, a hip hop-influenced collection of funk tunes that featured the classic go-go anthem "Hey Fellas". By the mid-'80s the band was a Beltway staple, performing regularly throughout the region and frequently sharing bills with DC hardcore punk bands like Minor Threat -- a novel pairing that helped diversify their growing fanbase. After issuing a 1985 live album titled Saturday Night Live, the band released two more studio albums on Island Records in the late '80s. Despite never achieving mainstream success, Trouble Funk remained a powerhouse live presence on the DC scene well into the '90s and '00s.In 2014 they marked their 35th anniversary with a celebratory round of shows, and they continue to bring the funk every time they take the stage.

    Supporting A Great Cause

by BrownLadyMan on 11/14/16Willett Hall - Portsmouth

Because I am a longtime fan, and even more The Cause, I had a pleasurable time. The hubby had to be built up, we both had been up working that morning since 530a, so the unexpected delay say us back for a moment. Young man 23 poems were great, but a little unorganized for all of the Adults that were backstage to assist him with organization a tad more, and still impromptu.
