SPILLED MY GUTS OUT
by D.Y on 5/8/24Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour was one of the best concerts I have ever been to! Getting into the arena was very easy and the staff were very organized. I scanned my ticket, got handed an exclusive trading card, and went straight to my seat! Olivia’s pre show playlist was playing all throughout the arena including songs like Just a Girl, That’s Not My Name, and Never be the same. I befriended the people next to me as we waited for the openers to get on stage. The lights dimmed and the stage spotlights turned on showing “The Breeders” written on the screen. The band opened up the show with their set lasting for about 40 minutes. About 10 minutes after The Breeders finished their set, the screen turned on showing 4 candles burning down in the shape of the word GUTS. Once the candles all burned down the lights turned off letting us know that it was time for Olivia to come on stage. The show opened up with a video of Olivia running backstage. The lights were flashing along with the video, the crowd was going crazy, and everyone’s eyes were attached to the stage. All of a sudden, Olivia just appeared on stage and started to sing her song “bad idea...right?” The crowd went wild and started screaming all of the words, that was when the show started to feel real. Olivia’s stage presence was absolutely amazing. She was moving around the stage waving to fans, dancing with her band, and her voice sounded just like the original recording. She moved onto her second song “ballad of a homeschooled girl” with even more energy. After the song finished she introduced herself and welcomed everyone to the show. Olivia sang other songs like “vampire,” “teenage dream,” and of course “drivers license.” The next act began with Olivia in a new black outfit, surrounded by her backup dancer as she began to sing her next song, “pretty isn’t pretty.” She sang two more songs after that, “love is embarrassing” and “making the bed,” before the lights dimmed. Stars started to come down from the ceiling along with a moon that floated to the right side of the stage. Olivia sat on the moon as it started floating around the arena. While on the moon she sang the songs “logical” and “enough for you.” Once the moon got to the other side of the stage, Olivia got back on the stage for a stunning performance of her song “lacy.” After that she sang other songs including “jealousy, jealousy,” and “Can’t Catch Me Now.” After the song, Olivia started introducing another artist on stage, saying “I found his music about a year ago and I instantly became obsessed.” I could just feel anticipation flowing through the audience as Olivia welcomed Noah Kahan on stage to perform his song “Stick Season.” Everyone’s screams were so loud as Noah ran on stage with his acoustic guitar. Everyone in the audience screamed every single word to the song, creating an astounding performance. She sang 4 more songs (happier, favorite crime, deja vu, the grudge) before moving onto the next act. Olivia appeared on stage in a stunning red dress, performing her songs “brutal” and “obsessed.” She then began singing her song “all american b-” which featured a special moment. Rodrigo had the audience “scream their guts out” during the final chorus of the song which was one of my favorite moments of the show. Olivia left the stage for a few minutes before returning for an encore, featuring the songs “good 4 u” and “get him back!” She got off the stage to meet some fans and then the show ended. The GUTS Tour was absolutely amazing and easily one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I loved how Olivia made the audience feel like they were a part of the performance. Her stage presence and vocals were just amazing. Olivia is clearly a born performer and I cannot wait to see her again on her next tour!
