    Really bad play

by Reeky on 3/23/14Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

We left at intermission, and would have left earlier if we were seated closer to the aisle. The play is unfunny and plodding, and the characters are uninteresting. With all the decent plays out there, why waste tens of thousands of dollars producing this one? I'm wondering about the initial readings: who was laughing or saying "gee that's great theater!" as the in-play narrators moved the story along by describing the plot without any wit or humor? It's too bad -- if I remember rightly, Jules Verne skewered the English gentleman's persnickety habits in the book...almost none of that came through in the play.

What a cute, funny play! I really enjoyed the sets and how they pulled off scenes from the book. My only issue was the absence of the hot air balloon.

    I wanted to laugh

Yes, it was funny. Just, not laugh out loud funny.

As my wife said, they tried hard. Cast was fine, but the material had no soul, no wit, no emotion, no mystery. Not sure why anyone would decide to put it on.

    Another amazing production

by 2Hummingbirds on 3/12/14Temple of Music and Art - Tucson

The cast is superb, the sets are inventive & the experience takes you on a whirlwind adventure. It's difficult at some moments to understand the 'authentic' accents, the script is so entertaining, you're never left wondering what's happening because the characters are so animated & engaging.
