Arkells in Concert
Arkells hail from Hamilton, Ontario, the midsize industrial city located about an hour west of the bustling metropolis of Toronto. And from day one, they've flaunted their hometown pride en route to becoming one of Canada's most popular rock bands.
The quintet named themselves after the west-end Hamilton street where they lived as students attending McMaster University, and their 2008 debut album, ‘Jackson Square,' paid tribute to the namesake shopping mall located in the heart of the city. But most importantly, the Arkells actually sounded like Hamilton, embodying the city's gritty, working-class spirit in proletarian anthems — like "Oh, the Boss Is Coming!" — that betrayed the deep influence of fellow Ontario indie-rock rabble-rousers the Constantines.
After winning the Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2010, the Arkells began to shed their steeltown skin and indie aesthetic. Max Kerman's impassioned vocals drove the soulful pop strut of "Leather Jacket" and the effervescent "Come to Light" (an open-freeway anthem in the mold of Don Henley's 1980s classic "Boys of Summer").
With 2016's ‘Morning Report,' they started taking notes from contemporary pop and hip-hop, resulting in the cheeky, gospelized R&B of "Drake's Dad" (whose video featured a cameo from Mr. Dennis Graham himself) and the brash, brass-knuckled single "Knocking at the Door" (The band's live setup has likewise expanded, incorporating a horn section and a chorus of female backing singers they dub the Arkettes).
But even as the Arkells racked up multiple Juno Awards and ascended to the ranks of bona fide arena rockers in Canada, they've never forgotten their Hamilton roots. They've supplied local Canadian Football League team the Ticats with their theme song, they continue to take an active role in endorsing local progressive politicians and urban transit initiatives, and Kerman and bassist Nick Dika have even opened their own sports bar downtown.
In June of 2018, the Arkells thanked their hometown by headlining their biggest concert to date, bringing more than 20,000 fans out to Hamilton's Tim Hortons Field for a gathering they dubbed The Rally. That sense of triumph has carried over to the subsequent album ‘Rally Cry,' whose gold-plated fusion of Springsteen-sized grandeur and modern-R&B groove shows that one of Canada's most beloved rock bands is ready to take on the world.

Energy from start to finish! Band was fantastic and group completely into the show
Let me start by saying this. The Arkells are hands down one of the best bands to see live! I will see them every opportunity I have if they are playing in driving distance. From the brass band to Max interacting with the audience, and the music, well it is amazing, it just doesn’t get any better than that!! The Kee to Bala is a small Intimate venue, and I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to see them play here. Something about seeing one of your favourite bands in a venue like this is a must, and I’m happy I got to!! The crowd is always good at a Arkells show, but something about this crowd made it feel even more special. It was a night I won’t soon forget.
We see Arkells together whenever they’re in town. She injured her foot recently and was offered a wheelchair with a host to get to and from our seats which helped tremendously. We had a wonderful time! I danced and sang the whole time! By the end of the show my feet were tired, my voice was hoarse and my hands were sore from clapping - true signs of a terrific night! They really got the crowd into the show! Can’t wait until next time!
the show was probably as good as it could be in an arena. The band was excellent, personable, and connecting with the audience on every level. The crowd was smallish for the size of the venue but i'm guessing they wanted the floor area in order to have an audience area to interact. The show would not have worked at an appropriate size theater because they wouldn't have been able to walk out into the crowd so many times and to the wedding dance etc. The Arkells are too big an act for a club but this would have been perfect in the summer at a venue like Deer Lake Park or Thunderbird Stadium where everyone that wanted to could have been in on the action.
We have been attending Arkells shows since 2015 and are never disappointed! They put on a phenomenal, interactive, passionate show each and every time. My only wish for this last show is that they had screens so we could see the action up close.
I have seen the Arkells 3x now and I can’t get enough. The concerts are always full of energy, entertaining and engaging. This group is my absolute favourite band to watch live.
Arkells - you outdid yourself once again! Probably the best show out there. Thank you for giving us a night of singing and dancing and the most fun ever. We especially appreciate you keeping your ticket prices reasonable so we were able to share this expereince with our kids. We love you and wouldn't miss a show! THANK YOU ARKELLS!
Arkells do a great job at keeping their show high energy and engaging with fans
I was blown away by the Arkells! Their front man has one impressive set of vocal chords! There's no studio magic required for that voice. The whole band puts on an impressive show, getting the whole crowd into it. I was a fair-weather fan before, but now it's genuine. I'll definitely be seeing them again.
Best concert I’ve been to in a while. They put on a great show!!
Arkells constantly up their live show game. Every time they come around, they make the show better, more interactive, and fun. They are our generation's Hip and I hope they keep coming back again and again. I will always make time to see their shows. Their music is so fun and easy to listen to for anyone.
Great, high energy concert! Kept the crowd super engaged and played great songs including a couple really good covers.
This is the first time ever having seen the Arkells live but it certainly won’t be the last. Such an amazing high energy show, amazing crowd interaction and amazing music. Made for one of the best concert experiences I have ever been too.

The Arkells never disappoint !! High energy show that has you up and dancing from the very start. A show full of anthems and feel good energy…. when I think “Ok I’ve seen them 4 times I don’t need to go to another Arkells show” …. I go again because it’s that great! Thanks Arkells for bringing it every show!
Honestly was not sure what to expect, could not call myself a fan but I would now and would see them again. Great show even got upgraded seats.
