Anthony Hamilton Background

Before getting his Grammy and churning out hits like "Charlene" and "Can't Let Go," Anthony Hamilton started singing from a young age and got his start in the church choir. Hamilton was born on January 28th, 1971, and is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina -- a core influence of his Southern neo-soul musical style. Hamilton also draws his musical influences from R&B greats, including Michael Jackson. After moving to New York City in the 1990s and moving between record labels, Hamilton finally created a name for himself with his fourth album in 2003, which featured the musical hit "Charlene." Hamilton's influence extends beyond music into the public sphere through his speaking and advocacy opportunities as a CASA spokesperson, which allows him to raise awareness about the foster care system.

A Ham Set Everyone's Soul ON FIRE!!!!

by RudyRudeDog on 7/5/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

This was one of the best concerts that I have seen in a while. The club was small but it made the atmosphere very intimate and personable - just the way Anthony Hamilton would like it. He must have had an accident and limped on stage with a cane and later had to use crutches. That still did not stop him from dancing and getting down on the floor from the stage to mingle with the fans. They loved it! He mixed neo-soul music with some heart throbbing "church slick" gospel, with an awesome arrangement of "Jesus Can Work It Out". The crowd brought him out for an encore and he did his rendition of Set My Soul On Fire and that is just what he did with the audience. This show was BLAZIN' HOT!!!!

    Expected more

by AnthonysFan21 on 7/5/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

The show started late and they said musiq soul child was coming as well. I expected Anthony Hamilton to perform a whole lot better than he did; however, he hurt his knee and couldn't do much. Overall, he did okay because he can really sing; nothing or no one can take that away from him. I just wish the show would have been better. I have nothing to really brag about. Will I go see him again, I probably will.

    Anthony was awesomely amazing!!!!

by Trinka on 7/5/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

Anthony for sure did his thang. He was great! I loved seeing him dancing around the stage. And hearing his songs sung live was very moving. It was like church, and chicken noodle soup for the heart at the same time. I would go see Anthony anytime. Please go support him. His whole crew is great as well, I didnt think there was enough room on stage for his guitar and bass player they were cutting up and dancing all over the stage, it was a great show. I just Loved it!! I would go over and over.

    Anthony Hamilton was awesome

by Tish on 7/4/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

I like Anthony's performance eventhough I felt like his hurt knee kind of limited him, physically. The voice and all my favorite songs were sung to perfection. The venue wasn't desirable, it was really cramped in the seating area and was too small of a venue for such a calaber act as Anthony Hamilton. The sound crew really needs a bit more practice on the sound board, but never fear Anthony's voice sounds good even with the feedback.

    Anthony Hamilton is entertaining

by BeezyR on 7/4/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Anthony Hamilton is a great performer! It would have been nice if Music and Chrisette Michelle would have come to Jacksonville as well. I feel cheated. In addition, the location of the concert had the worst sound system ever!

    Anthony Showed-Up and Delivered!!!!

by Susanna on 7/3/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

My best friend and I attended this event together to celebrate her graduation from college this pass May, and my birthday this coming weekend. I must say that I really did'nt know what to expect, but was truly satisfied with show delivered by Mr. Hamilton. Although Anthony's leg was giving him some problems, he never let up for a moment!. From the flow of the selections performed, to the cohesiveness and the unity of his band, they delivered. Hat's off to Anthony and the crew on such a successful performance. A note to Anthony -Take it easy on the knee, and keep on bringing it to the people like you did at the beach!!! Your style and class is so apperciated!!!

    Anthony was great!

by pammy on 7/3/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

I really enjoyed Anthony. He's the man. However, I was not impressed with the venue or the parking. The "House of Blues" was an excite facility. I was just not expecting to have to stand up. The parking was horrible.

    Off The Chain

by LadyRobbins on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

The concert was off the hook. Even though we thought the show included Musiq, we had a great time with Anthony. He had a bum leg, but still managed to turn the show out.

The Best Day Of My Life

by Gcarter on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Do get me wrong this was not the first time I have been to one of his concerts. But let me say it get better every time. In the past I did not have the best set, but this time I was really for him. Tickets when on sale a 10:00am I was buying mine at 10:03. An that was only because I was having computer issues. I was able to get second row first and second seat on the end. I was able to get call on stage roght after he song sister BIG BONE (which is one of my jams). And I dance with him. I had a Blast. It was by far the best day of my life( well after I became a grad)... I have been a fan of him for a long time. when he was singing with Nappy Roots I was a fan. I can not wait until I can see him again. God Bless him and his Family. And my he continue to have many more Great shoes. ..... Oh I really am praying for his leg to get better. But he still gave a great show.

    Complaint from a Non-Complainer!!

by jaxchic on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

I am not a complaining person! This is my first time EVER writing a review for anything, but I was highly disappointed with this concert. I was actually bored and toward then end I told my husband that I was sleepy. I knew that Anthony Hamilton was the sole performer on the ticket (minus Musiq Soulchild and Crisette Michelle), but expected much more. The acoutics in the venue were horrible. The playlist was short and did not reflect the many great songs of his albums. It was very difficult to hear him speak - I could hear him sing, but if I didn't already know the lyrics it would have been difficult to hear the actual words to the songs. His mics kept giving feedback (Even he was a bit annoyed by this). There was a lot of fluff in the show (pulling people from the audience to dance on stage, a church song which lasted about 10-15min, and the usual musician and back ground singer intros). He arrived on stage at 8:50 pm and the show was over at 10:20pm. (No Encore performance!!) I would say he actually sang only about 45min!! Of that time, I really enjoyed his singing. Unlike many artists today he can really sing live!! He was also on crutches and walking with a cane, which he couldn't help because he had been in an accident, but if you are unable to give the people a show, I'd rather you just cancel!! Honestly, I would have been just as happy had I invited a few friends over and played his music in my living room... Sorry, Anthony - Still Love you though!!!
