An Evening with Anthony Bourdain was incredible! My husband and I went out to see him on a date night, and it did not disappoint. He was just like he is on the show, very dark humor and really entertaining. Loved it. Would definitely recommend attending, if you are a fan.

    Bourdain is a badass!

by redbeard123 on 11/10/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I was not a huge Bourdain fan before this event, but I am now! He was funny, inspiring and completely casual to the sellout crowd. I have started watching his show and will continue to do so!

    Talking is the chef's specialty

by SheriffScabs on 11/9/09Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

If you've never read Kitchen Confidetial, never seen No Reservations, or flat out have no idea who Anthony Bourdain is, then this obviously is not an event you would want to attend. It is two hours of a man talking about himself. But if you have read his books, seen his shows, and are aware of what a brilliant life Mr Bourdain has led, you will be thouroughly entertained. The first hour, Tony told some stories about how he's going to appear on an episode of Gaba Gaba Hey to taking Rachel Rea off his hate list because of a shared love for the New York Dolls. He also speaks about the things he can't talk about on TV and WHY he chooses not to. He may be the bad boy of the cooking world, but he does have a sweet spot. Still, it's when the spite comes out where the evening gets really fun, like his terrifying encounter with Sandra Lee or commenting on the unfathomable notion of an all organic vegan United States. The second hour of the evening relies on questions from the audience. Much to which has to do with his travels and cullinery tips. I could see how this portion of the evening could vary from show to show, depending on the quality of audience participation. Nevertheless, this is an Anthony Bourdain who is more open, more candid, and more delightfully vular than he is on camera. If you are a fan, I highly recomend seeing him in this live setting.

    enjoyable performance but...

by cookster on 11/9/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

My husband and I enjoyed the performance but under very uncomfortable conditions as the temperature of the room was stifling. I was also disappointed that Anthony's latest cookbook was unavailable and that he declined to do book signing.

Swine the Animal that Keeps Giving.

by EatPigEveryday on 11/8/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

It was wonderful to see that Anthony Bourdain remains true to himself whether in print, seen on television, or seen live. His ability to continually satisfy his audience with wit and humor made the time pass all too soon. If you go in with any hesitation about eating some unknown delicacy that came from a stew pot over a propane burner under a tarp in a foriegn market, that insecurity will quickly leave after seeing the great deal of passion for food Bourdain expresses on stage.

Great evening with Bourdain -- In his characteristic fashion, he told funny travel & life stories, but still managed to relate it back to the idea that food is, ultimately, about getting to know other people.

Controversial and entertaining - to dine for!

by spoonyfork on 11/8/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

While we won't be able to dine at Tony's Bone Marrow Palace or watch Anthony do a stand-and-stir holiday cooking special any time soon, the closest we can get to the delicious Mr. Bourdain is his speaking engagements. Anthony's opinions on his and other's culinary fame are always humorous. His tales of adventure around the world are inspirational. Anthony's controversial opinions on food from farm to mouth will bring laughter, cheers, gasps, and stunned uncomfortable silence of pure shock. Vegetarians and vegans are welcome, but you will be grilled. Wrapped tightly in integrity and humor, an evening with Anthony is always memorable and entertaining.

Wasn't sure what to expect with an unrehearsed format. The Q andA was especially entertaining.

Anthony Bourdain Rocked the Michigan Theater

by TheMichiganGirl on 11/8/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Up until a few months ago I had no clue who Anthony Bourdain was as horrible as that sounds. I haven't had a lot of time to just sit down and watch tv in a while. The only thing I knew was that my boyfriend loved Anthony, he looks at Anthony as a role model for him, as funny as that may be it certainly is true. He had told me that Anthony had done a show on the Food Network station for a few years, that now he had his show No Reservations on the Travel channel, that he was a writer and a long time chef. I knew my boyfriend aspired to be like him, to become a great chef through all and any hard work that was to come. So I was on Facebook in between my college classes and I had noticed an ad in the right hand corner of the screen. Here was Mr. Bourdain's face smiling at me and saying that he was coming to Michigan. As soon as I saw him I clicked on his ad, I knew how much my boyfriend loved Anthony and just how much this would mean to him. I immediately texted him and told him that Anthony Bourdain was coming and that I was going to get him tickets to see the one person who impacts his life so much. So I bought the tickets and watched a few episodes of No Reservations prior to attending his show just so I would have a better insight into what he was like. I too fell in love with him. His sense of humor automatically drew me in, and he acted just like himself, unlike many with their own shows who have to pretend to be somebody they are not. I knew I was going to have an amazing time at this event and I was right. Both of us sat there laughing our asses off, and what was even more funny to me was the fact that I could sit there as a semi-vegetarian ( I eat fish) and listen to him rip on people like me. But it didn't matter, because just like my boyfriend, you can't argue against someone who as valid points. Anthony knows what he's taking about and I'm not going to argue against him, a vegetarian who once ate meat herself. But at least I know I'm not hated as much as the vegan, so that did make me feel a bit better. I found Anthony very much entertaining and it left me wanting to know more about him, he's hilarious as I said before, and he knows exactly what he's talking about. Food is what he's great at, he know the insides and out of the restaurant business and what it takes to be a great chef. His performance was just what I needed. A day to sit down and listen to this amazing guy tell funny stories and stories about him in other countries living a day in the life of someone else. That's something that not many would ever consider. I thought it was brilliant when he talked about how he's not going to wrinkle his nose to someone's food or way of living just because it's different from the American way, the way we might be used to. He's a guest in someone's country, he's there to eat what the locals eat and see their way of life. It was an amazing show and I would see him again in a heartbeat!

    Great night with Anthony Bourdain!!!

by BKHUP on 11/8/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

From the moment he walked on stage until the moment he disappeared behind the curtain, Tony B. held us in the palm of his hands. The audience was there to be entertained and he did not disappoint! His almost hour long recall of places he'd visited, both good and bad, and the food he's eaten, mostly good, and the people he's met along the way, mostly poor and always gracious, was peppered with humor and sarcasm - just what we came to the theater to hear. He is a man who is opinionated, well versed, in love with his wife and child and in love with the more shady, slightly dark, troubled areas of our world and wants to spread his appreciation of all of it around. Tony held our interest by recalling the good and bad sides of travels with a group of TV people to the many off-the-beaten-path areas of our world. He followed the talk with another hour of Q&A and carried his humor and wit through to the end. I would have liked him to come back on stage to hold our interest for another hour but his beer was gone and I guess he had already given us more than expected. A great evening!

    Tony rocked the house

by Gourmand on 11/8/09Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Went to this event wondering what Anthony Bourdain could possibly do to entertain us - would he show video clips? Read from his books? He did neither and left the audience completely full and satisfied - this was an unforgettable evening with the chef just being himself and riffing on having the best job in the world. Great fun.
