    A4: voices of angels

by Vicaria on 3/7/11Bruton Parish Episcopal Church - Williamsburg

I've loved the sound of Anonymous 4 for years--so pure, so precise, so ethereal. The medieval works are perfect. And the addition to their repertoire of Southern harmonies, folk and gospel, is remarkable: a different kind of purity and precision, with a new layer of depth of meaning (Parting Friends is very different from, but not unrelated to, O monialis conscio)! It was wonderful to hear them in person (the venue didn't allow many of us to actually SEE them well, unfortunately). Venue (1715 colonial church) atmosphere and sound were just right for this group.

    Not what I expected

by Tom25 on 3/7/11Bruton Parish Episcopal Church - Williamsburg

I was expecting more modern songs, less religious, etc. My wife and I did not do our reseach well enough and were very disappointed by the show. The performers were very good but the subject matter was not what we expected and did not meet our desires. A slightly raised stage would have allowed everyone to see the singers. We could not see due to the wall surrounding our seats, which was part of the 18th century design. The pulpit was raised so obviousley this was a concern during church services.

An exceptionally beautiful evening of singing. Loved the quality of singing and loved the repertoire.
