Excellent show at an intimate venue

by Jason Davies on 11/8/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Andy Summers provided a great and memorable performance – so glad I went. He played a few instrumental versions of some of the Police's biggest hits, while also playing more experimental ambient music and even some jazz. Between songs, he amused the crowd with interesting and comedic stories and there was a constant reminder of his incredible work as a photographer – with many of his photos projected behind him. It was just him, so it would have also been nice to have more live musicians as opposed to the backing tracks, but it worked out well overall. I would most definitely see him again – really great artist who is also quite personable and always interesting. The venue was perfect – we got tickets at the last minute in the left orchestra section and ended up just a few rows away from him. Probably the best seats I've had for a show in a long time – and also very reasonably priced. I ended up purchasing a signed lithograph and now wish I had also purchased one of his signed books....next time. I'll add that it was hard to believe he's 80 – he still rocks!

Playing to YouTube backing tracks like a midlevel guitarist

    by a. M. on 10/14/23

Andy MUST polish his show! I am a huge Police fan, and although I never thought his solo albums are great, I do think he’s a seminal guitarist. This show, however, is boring and poorly designed with Andy playing melody (Sting singing) over backing tracks anyone can get on YouTube.

Andy Summers is in a guitar works of his own. We were not able to stay for all of the show due to a family member not feeling well but what he heard and saw was fantastic. A true legend !

    As Great as Ever

by PoliceFan on 9/12/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Andy is still as great as he's ever been. Fantastic music...fantastic pictures...fantastic stories!! He played 8 Police songs, with his own twists...and as many of his own songs post Police. His sense of humor is fantastic and his story telling as great. Had a fantastic time....wish he'd tour more often! Saw him in Skokie....

    A Legend On Stage

by Michelle on 9/11/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Andy Summers solo performance is as fantastic as you'd expect from one of the world's best guitarists. His music, backed by images from his own photography collection is a treat for the soul. Thank you, Mr. Summers

Great night with a living legend

by Kathy on 9/11/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

The Police is my favorite band of all time. As their lead guitarist, Andy helped create their one of a kind sound. It was a joy to hear & see the amazing work he's done for decades. So happy to finally see him solo!

Summers is a legend but the show could be more ambitious

by ZE on 9/11/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Andy Summers is going strong 40 years after the Police’s last real album, and remains an adventurous guitarist. He’s made many interesting recordings in the intervening decades across different genres, oftentimes working with other great musicians. His chops are undiminished. Why, then, are we listening to him play to largely prerecorded sounds, rather than getting at least one other musician on the stage with him who can lay down simple percussion, or provide the rhythm guitar that makes a live show so much more interesting? Apparently to save on hotel room expense, and this from a rocker who might have once trashed them. Adds a bit of cost but would make the whole experience a lot more compelling — and probably more enjoyable for Summers, who is otherwise struggling with the technology.

    Disappointed...

by ScottyAH on 9/11/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Was super excited to go to the show. Within minutes of him ambling out, I realized it wasn't going to be what I'd hoped for. The performance was lackluster, like it was hastily put together. The show was oddly paced & technically behind the times. Working exclusively with backing tracks and a canned slideshow left him no room for improvisation. For the few Police songs he played, he didn't play the signature guitar parts, but instead played the melody (Sting vocal lines). Often, he flubbed those or just let the backing track play on its own... I felt bad for anyone who bought front row tickets and wasn't on the left side of the auditorium. Andy sat/stood within about a 5 foot radius a few paces from the left side stage curtain. Ninety percent of the stage was unused (except for an unused guitar stand on the right side of the stage?). No encore. Andy simply walked off stage and the hour lights immediately came up. I hate to say it, but I was glad it was over....

    The Worst Show Ever

    by R. P. on 7/29/23

I went to the opening night at the Cabot and was really excited to see Andy. Wow, what a huge disappointment !! He had a sideshow and played his guitar to a tape recording of various noises, etc. My question is, why not bring along a band Andy ?? You were playing to a tape like most novice musicians in their home. The advertisement at the Cabot was misleading. It never said he was playing to taped music. Then he started with the bashing of politicians. So that turned off half the crowd. Andy, we go to shows to get away from this stuff. Not cool. You are way better then this.I would scrap the tour and start over. Or go back to China and have a blast !!

    Unique , entertaining experience

    by Liz on 7/29/23

We didn’t know what to expect as we had never seen Andy Summers as a solo artist before . It was so different and cool … and sort of intimate. You felt like he was sharing his work with you at a private setting . His photographs are creative and moving and how he was able to choreograph them with his music … simply genius . We thoroughly enjoyed the show ! Go see him !

    Thanks, Andy!!!

    by CM on 7/29/23

Decided to grab tickets for this show and am glad we did. Andy is a great storyteller and talented guitarist and photographer, weaving a visually stimulating presentation together with his guitar playing and telling stories that are both whimsical and informative of his globetrotting expeditions with bandmates and encounters with locals, natives and even John Belushi... fun stuff. Thanks, Andy!!!

    Very disappointed

    by D&M on 7/24/23

Very disappointed! I have a picture of the description from The Cabot stating that Andy Summers (quoted) “This summer, lead guitarist Andy Summers Music heads to The Cabot to play all your favorite jams from The Police on July 21. Get your tickets now ->” and he did NOT! He showed a slide show of pictures he took of places he’s been and he played (doodled) his guitar and talked in between each “song” We left early!!

his creativity switch goes to "11", but Dennis runs the Show

    by gskellyton on 7/24/23

"A fantastic evening with a brilliant practitioner of the guitar camera and written word" andy's tireless productivity shows yet again that true artists don’t slow down, his creative curiosity has never slowed. He keeps exercising his muse and expanding his chops, and continues to produce new work.

    Not what I expected !!

Bad advertising !! I didn’t know it was just going to be him noodling on the guitar the whole time. Some people may enjoy that but I did Not.

This was NOT a concert - very disappointing.

    by Rich on 7/24/23

I was looking forward to this show but was extremely disappointed. This was NOT a concert. Andy Summers played guitar to recorded music that played in the background while his photography was projected in the background. There was no backing band. If anything, it was a show - and a poor one at that. I was so bored that my friend and I ended up leaving about halfway through the show as it was painful to sit through.

    Disappointing

    by Stung on 7/24/23

I was expecting that Summers would be playing with a band or playing to a recorded band. Instead I got a trippy slide show from an 80 year old man that is pretty hip for his age and can play guitar. Somebody dropped the ball on advertising this one: I went back and saw the initial advertisements from the venue and Ticketmaster, and nowhere did it lead you to believe this was a picture show. Also, not sure why musicians feel a need to get political during a show. Only a couple of digs on politics, but kind of a turn off. Very boring show.

    Guitar genius

    by cjs on 7/24/23

Don’t expect a sort of The Police session; that would be your biggest mistake. Andy is a super talented guitarist; one of the best in the whole world; so his presentation is about him showing his skills for you to enjoy. Sure there will be some The Police tunes but strongly highlighting the guitar sound over all other instruments and with no vocals. As a The Police fan, I really enjoyed the show.
