André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

by TarHeel on 7/11/091st Mariner Arena - Baltimore

The music, the atmosphere, the setting were just perfect. Andre thinks of everything and everything must be perfect - from the best performers and musicians to the nicest settings to the best website I have ever seen from a performer. I look forward to the Andre Rieu concert every year with much excitement.

    ANDRE RIEU, THE BEST

    by AVONOVA on 7/11/09Wachovia Arena - Wilkes-Barre

Dating back to the fist time I saw him on television, I wandered if I would ever have the opportunity to see him in concert. After checking show dates in our area, I was fortunate enough to find a schedule in our state and checked several bus trips, only to find that they were already booked to capacity. I then checked with friends who wanted to see him. I called direct to the Wachovia Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. , purchased tickets and made hotel reservations for the night and we traveled by auto. This was a trip that will never be forgotten. A few times thru out the performance, I cried because I could not believe that God made it possible for me to be able to see this fabulous entertainer and orchestra. I have purchased DVD;s and CD;s and some days, I listen to them all day. DEFINITELY THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN

    Chilling

    by chiro on 7/11/09Wachovia Arena - Wilkes-Barre

I am 49 yrs. old and expected a senior majority but there was a nice mix of younger people. What a professional performance it was. Andre Rieu has so much love and passion for his music it just flows out of him and the orchestra members. A great sense of humor as well. I am not even a classical fan per se, but this was an opportunity to see a world renowned event in a small pa. city. It was wonderful, with a mix of music that everyone would recognize , from classical gold standards to themes from movies past . It is much more than just watching an orchestra , the personal performances by soloists and choir are very entertaining. I only wish I could have taken my 16 yr. old daughter because afterward, I knew she would have enjoyed it.

by justus on 7/11/091st Mariner Arena - Baltimore

It was my first time seeing Andre Rieu, and I was definitely not disappointed! The music was absolutely wonderful. His personality is fantastic. I found out that Andre Rieu returns every May, so I will definitely see him again. My only complaint is that I wish he would perform in a concert hall such as the Meyerhoff here in Baltimore. I truly believe that the 1st Mariner Arena just takes away from the classical presence of the show.

    Andre Rieu was wonderful!

by Gramma4 on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

Who ever thought classical music could be fun? Well, that's what Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra provided during their concert. It wasn't only most enjoyable to listen to, but he provided a light-hearted comedy to his performance that isn't usually associated with an orchestra and classical music. This is the type of entertainment that a whole family could experience together-----and what a better way to introduce children to this type of music. I originally bought the tickets as a gift for my husband, but I enjoyed it as much as he did, or maybe even more. This was a most enjoyable and fun evening, and everything I expected from Andre Rieu.

    Excellent Show

    by NavyChuck on 7/11/09Wachovia Arena - Wilkes-Barre

Another typically genius Andre Rieu show. I missed not having a few of his regular divas, but the addition of the three new tenors was great. Somehow his shows seems much shorter live than on TV. The sound system and large screens were perfect. The arena staff were most hospitable and provided free upgraded seats and lead us to them. Wouldn't it have been more productive to ask for this review shortly after the event rather than two months later?

    Great Entertainment

by DandJ on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

If you enjoy watching Andre Rieu on PBS, you will love seeing him in person. I was put off by the price of the tickets and was not going, but was given tickets by my children for my early Fathers' Day gift. It was a truly great show. Rieu is a consummate entertainer and showman. We loved the show.

Andre' Rieu at the Q in Cleveland

by Switch2756 on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

This was the first time seeing Andre' in person. It was at the Q which is pretty large arena. The set looked great from the beginning and throughout the show. They had a few random acts with the audience and a few skits. I was very pleased with the concert overall. There were only two things that bothered me. First, the sound was muted to a degree throughout the show and especially the first half. I was not that far away, sitting on the sides, pretty nice seats and had a hard time hearing him and the music, other than the horns. Everything else was muffled. I realize that the Q is not the perfect place to hear a concert such as this, nor was I expecting a rock concert either. I still feel they should of adjusted to this somehow. The second half of the show seemed a bit better. Maybe they realized that also. Another thing, this is minor. Since it was Andre' and his Orchestra's 30th yr. anniversary, I thought they would play a lot more of everyone's favorites. Many good songs, but some of my favorites I heard on TV a lot, they did not play. I will go to see them again when they come back but not at the Q. This is not a good place to hear them! My suggestion is to have it at the Playhouse square for multiple nights.

    Andre Rieu defines Showmanship!

by Teacher3 on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

Andre Rieu creates music which is alternately soothing, stimulating, and inspiring. He and his orchestra supplement their innate talents by creating visual beauty at every turn. The audience was left enraptured and unwilling to have the concert end.

    Andre Rieu was beyond expectations

by ladystar on 7/11/091st Mariner Arena - Baltimore

Andre Rieu is not commonly known in the United States. My 15 year old son came across him on Ytube and wanted to go see him. Andre Rieu brought forth instrumentals and song in a way that was mesmerizing. No one in the audience wanted the evening to end. He truly was a wonderful talent and well worth the time and money invested to attend one of his concerts.

    Rieu was terrific

by italian1 on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

If it was done at a smaller venue, due to over 10.000 + seats left, overall sound would have been much better.

by Jose on 7/11/091st Mariner Arena - Baltimore

My wife and I has been going to his concert since he started coming to Baltimore. His music and comedy is very uplifting you want to get up and dance as many of the audience do. He's a master playing music with such of precision if a mistake is made is impossible to recognized. We will continue to attend his concert as long he continue to come to Baltimore.

    Amazing!!

by sped on 7/11/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

I took my mother to see Andre as part of her Mother's Day gift. We loved every moment. We were fortunate to have seats on the floor right in the front. The flowers, costumes and song selections...I woulnd't have changed anything. The more you clapp, the more he plays. What a wonderful talent he has! I was disappointed that I didn't take a camera,as I didn't think you would be allowed to take pictures; Yet eveyone around me were snapping up memories. I hope he visitsCleveland again.

    Andre Rieu

by NukeEngineer on 7/11/091st Mariner Arena - Baltimore

Excellent concert. Andrie Rieu kept the audience entertained with a slick - well oiled show. A total of 20 songs were performed followed by 6 songs during the encore - 2 1/2 hours of pure fun. The Brazilian Soprano, Miss Carla Maffioletti was in top form - she held the audience in the palm of her hand - what an amazing singer!!
