AMANDA SHIRES IN CONCERT:
Alt-country sweetheart Amanda Shires has made a name for herself with her velvety croon, impressive violin playing, and simple yet powerful arrangements. Critics have likened Shires' voice to greats like Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, and fans lucky enough to catch her powerful renditions of emotional tracks like "Devastate" and "Swimmer" in concert will have no trouble seeing why. A talented multi-instrumentalist as comfortable on the ukulele as she is on the violin, Shires always enthralls ticket buyers with her musicianship and dynamic energy on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Texas-born Amanda Shires began performing with Western swing outfit the Texas Playboys at age 15. In the early '00s she began writing her own music, and in 2005 she released her solo debut album Being Brave. After relocating to Nashville she followed up in 2009 with her sophomore album West Cross Timbers, a powerful collection of songs that garnered praise for its masterful songwriting and uncluttered arrangements. Critical acclaim continued with her 2011 album Carrying Lightning, which contained the track "When You Need a Train It Never Comes" -- named the fifth best song of the year by American Songwriter magazine. With her fourth album -- 2013's Down Fell the Doves -- Shires achieved her most ambitious collection of songs to date, earning another round of glowing reviews before hitting the road on tour.

Saw Amanda Shires for the first time last week at the Bijou. There is no better place to see a show. An unintroduced guy came on stage blew me away with his performance. His songs were funny, profane and delivered with an unorthodox guitar style that was perfect for his set. Never caught his name. They got Amanda set up and rolling, the band was first rate and she was a good frontwoman. Very pretty, wonderful voice. There were a couple of things that weren't working for me. The vocals were were too soft and kind of murky. I would have liked to hear and understand the lyrics. There were some interruptions in the flow that were probably meant to be cool, however they seemed very self serving, Probably the band and crew were amused, the audience, not so much. minor thing, don't even know what song, but ongoing fuzz bass? Sounded like a speaker had blown. A little goes a long ways, unless your name is John Entwistle. Overall I enjoyed the show, may go next time shes in town and see what I see.
Such an amazing artist in an amazing venue! Great show.
Absolutely amazing artists: Amanda Shires and Sean Rowe. Amazing venue
Saw Amanda and the boys on Friday 4/13 at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Band was very tight and talented. Amanda was Sooooooo entertaining. The stories she shared and the interaction with the crowd was warm and genuine. Highly recommend this show if you have the opportunity. (next day I drove to Savannah Ga. to see Jason Isbell and the 400 unit. GREAT weekend).
I was Lucky enough to See Amanda Dec 13, 2017 in Jacksonville opening for John Prine. 4 months later, to the date, I got too see Her Headlining Her own Show. Wow, Multi-Instrumentalist / Vocalist and Gracious Person. her show was awesome, Band was tight, and opener Cory Branan was a Surprise. I received a Autographed Poster and a Personalized Autographed LP after the show. She and Her Band were MORE than Garacious and Caring. If all Artist were like these People, More Folks would attend shows. Thank You Ms. Amanda, Cannot wait for You to come back to North Florida Again. Jobi.
Lovely. Just what my spirit needed after a rough week.
Amanda was great. wonderful to hear her do the songs from her recent album. great voice, lyrics and musicianship and very engaging and personable with the crowd, even though on a Sunday night in Boston in January with the colleges out I am sure it would have been nice for Amanda to have a few more people hear her music.
