I don't normally post, but I have to strongly disagree with the previous comment. I have attended the AFC from it's very first event and several in between and the talent pool is getting stronger. Alaska Fighting Championship has some highly trained MMA fighters which I believe are a direct result of the AFC having a presence these past few years, providing a stage for them to showcase their talents. The talent is reaching levels where some of these fighters are traveling to more venues in the lower 48 to compete in large market areas. I've also noticed more high caliber fighters from the MMA world flying up here and fighting in AFC events.
One thing that drew me in to MMA with the early days of the UFC was the fact that you got to see different disciplines of fighting matched up against one another. (ie wrestler vs. boxer) Over time, fighters began to be more well rounded and it became more difficult to decipher stronger skill sets in different areas from fighters. What I like about the AFC is you can see the distinction in fighter disciplines in the earlier matchups on the fight card. When you watch for that it becomes even more intriguing.
The AFC is one of a kind in Anchorage and the shows they put on continue to get better and more elaborate. I have become a big fan because of their consistency in building a better product and the fact that they are establishing a sport in Alaska by working with many gyms around the state (Gracie Barra, etc).
You only have one event a month to see it, and there is nothing like it in Alaska. Hands down, absolutely worth the price of admission!
