I thoroughly enjoyed Al Jarreau's concert with the W-S Symphony! He is still the best....so genuine, so engaging! The performance was the first for him with this symphony and you would have thought that they performed together all the time.....a very professional, entertaining evening!!!!
Al Jarreau and the Piedmont (?) W-S Wind Symphony appeared to have never even rehearsed for this show. They truly appeared to not have a clue as to what they were doing or what they were going to play and sing. Maybe that is part of the grass roots appeal to true jazz officianados and I just don't "get" it, but this was definitely the worst show I have ever seen.
Al was great in the eighties but unfortunately is past his prime. I liked his band more than his vocals. Sorry
To be 69 yrs. old and still touriing, WOW! He has so many songs that I knew he couldn't sing all the favorites but the one's he did were great and he can still scat! Outstanding band and there solo's which he gave each one, was outstanding.
We were in the second row orchestra pit and it was wonderful. Al is fabulous!!
