About

With the release of Love Ritual in 2010, soul singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Al Green reminded the world exactly why he so richly deserves legendary status. Featuring a remix of retro hits and rare tracks, Love Ritual is a nostalgic predecessor to his 2008 album Lay It Down, which featured a collection of earthy, soul-infused songs epitomizing his iconic sound from the past four decades. Green's concerts feature a mix of old favorites as well as new, contemporary takes on classics, and fan excitement runs high during his intense, bluesy riffs and highly charged vocal improvisations. Lay It Down spawned a major European tour, with ticket holders thrilling to the singer’s low-and-smoky take on “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?,” as well as his gospel-powered romance anthem, “Let’s Get Married.” His newest release follows similarly with throbbing, gutsy vocals and pulsating rhythms.

As much a showman as a singer, Green entered the performing arena during the 1960s, emulating the singing styles of heroes Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. Green hit the charts with “Tired of Being Alone” and his slow, sexy sound and charismatic interpretive style catapulted him to R&B royalty. After the platinum “I’m Still in Love with You,” Green produced a string of hits, including the iconic “I Feel Good” and fan favorite “Let’s Stay Together.” By the 1980s, Green made ministry a primary focus in his life but still found time to stay on top of his R&B career — Rolling Stone magazine included him on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Today, the Reverend Green is a fully ordained pastor who continues to go on concert tours whenever possible. With the release of Love Ritual, a new generation can experience the thrill of listening to one of the world's greatest R&B musicians.

Every year I take advantage of the opportunity to see the LEGENDARY Rev. AL Green perform. This summer another Legend was added to the venue; Ms. Etta James. What a treat! The Concert at Chastain Park was wonderful... wouldn't have missed it for the world!

    Al Green better than ever!

by Reesie33 on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

This concert was excellent. Al Green has still got it. He played the old hits as well as new ones. He still knows how to entertain a crowd. I thought he sounded better now then back in the 70s.

    Al Green and Etta James

by empressjg on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

This show was simply amazing to see Ms. James perform "At Last" made the hair on my arms stand up. Beyonce sings the song well, however, Etta does a much better performance because she sings the song from somewhere within her soul. Once Rev. Green took to the stage, he had the audience totally captured. To see Rev. Green sing and dance was a treat. In addition to sing the songs with him. This was the best show I've seen in many years and I am in my 50s.

Al and Etta were simply wonderful!

by CKJazzy on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

They had the whole crowd out of their seats, dancing along! When Etta sang "At Last," everything went quiet and you could just feel the history that had been and was being made by this moment. Al brought the soul out of everyone!

    Al Green was just okay!!!

by oleschool1962 on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Etta James and Al Green was just okay, Ms James did a good job. Al Green really sound great, but the choices of songs weren't good. He is ole school and he needed to keep it just that......not gospel either. He touched on some of his back in the day.....I remember this song, but not exactly what I expected!! The concert was as I said before, JUST OKAY.

Al Green - Better with age

by SassySarah on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

What can I say? I'm old enough to remember Al when he was just starting out. I saw him years ago. This performance was just as good and as energy filled as when I saw him years ago. As a fact, he has only gotten better. I enjoyed the concert from start to finish. I wasn't ready to leave. I think I was as tired as he was when I left and I didn't perform. He engaged the audience brilliantly. And his choice of music was all I could ask.

    Dissapointed but entertained

by EDGREG on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Unfortunatley we arrived late and missed part of Etta's performance. Even still I think it was cut short for some reason. Then there was at least a 30-40 time laspe between Etta leaving and Al starting I don't get this. Al performance was great there were alot of "church like" tones kindy of preachy talk but good none the less.

June's Al Green & Etta James concert at Chastain Park, Atlanta was off the chain! I have never heard blues so raw than when Etta sang. Al Green is absolutely awesome. I couldn't love him more. He offered a wonderful performance. I will see him again and again whenever he comes to Atlanta. Etta James is a perfect compliment to reverend Al.

Al Green and Etta James added sizzle to HotLanta!!

by MtnGrrl on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

What a FABULOUS night indeed!! Etta got the mood set with her sultry ways and Al took over and brought us on home. The young man next to me laughed when Al first laid on the floor and then when he effortlessly popped right back up and didn't miss a beat...I looked over and saw the amazement in his young eyes. I commented "hmmm, imagine that, you didn't think he had it in him...son, now THAT'S OLD SCHOOL!!!" I kept thinking that if Al had something to prove to someone, well, he sure made that happen tonight. He completely brought the house down when he lit our collective hearts on fire with his wonderful medly rendition of oldies---all of Chastain was singin and swayin to the music much to the delight of each other. What more can I say but----MORE, please, MORE!!

Al and Etta: A toast to the Legends!

by TheOriginalRG on 7/14/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

This show was everything I hoped it would be. Exciting! Soul stirring! Thoughtful! Fun! Etta James set the plate for Rev Al by giving us a taste of her legendary 'blues' served with ample amounts of sensual favorites. At 70 plus, she still has her way with audiences and devoted listeners. The Rev. Al Green took the faithful to church and back with his familar and smooth renderings of classics such as "Let's Stay Together", "Love & Happiness" and a few current charts. He preached, he testified, he danced and he lifted us to new heights, leaving the crowd wanting more at the end of his set. In short, I'm glad I experienced these two legends firsthand!
