About

Who better to carry on the legacy of Mötley Crüe, Thin Lizzy and AC/DC than a no-holds-barred Aussie quartet who shamelessly indulge in rock culture excess? Australia's Airbourne have been rocking out in the over-the-top style of their favorite '70s and '80s acts since 2001 and show no signs of slowing down.

Formed in Warrnambool in the early '00s, Airbourne initially consisted of brothers Joel and Ryan O'Keeffe, who played lead guitar and drums, respectively. They were soon joined by rhythm guitarist David Roads and Adam Jacobson on bass. Together, the quartet left for Melbourne and released their first EP: 2004's self-financed Ready To Rock.

Their fanbase expanded as Airbourne opened for big-name acts like The Rolling Stones and Mötley Crüe. In 2006, they traveled to the United States to record their debut album, Runnin' Wild, at Capitol Records with producer Bob Marlette. The album was later released in 2007 via Roadrunner Records.

That same year, Airbourne toured with Kid Rock and Korn and issued a live EP, Live At The Playroom. In 2010, they released their sophomore album, No Guts. No Glory, which was nominated for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the 2010 ARIA Music Awards. The next year, Airbourne supported Iron Maiden on the UK leg of their Final Frontier World Tour.

In 2013, the band released their third album, Black Dog Barking, which was produced by Brian Howes and later nominated for another ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album. The next year, Airbourne began recording their fourth studio album, Breakin' Outta Hell, which arrived in 2016.

Breakin' Outta Hell became the group's highest charting album in multiple countries: Australia at No. 13, Austria at No. 3, Germany at No. 3, Switzerland at No. 4, and UK at No. 9. It was also nominated for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the ARIA Music Awards in 2017. That same year, founding rhythm guitarist David Roads announced that he would be leaving the band. He was replaced by Matt "Harri" Harrison, who had previously played in Palace Of The King.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Runnin' Wild, Airbourne released a compilation album in 2017 called Diamond Cuts: The B-Sides. In 2019, the band released their fifth studio album, Boneshaker, which was produced by Dave Cobb and broke the Top 10 in Germany and Switzerland. In 2022, they hit the road for a North American tour. Catch this hard-rocking band live when they come to a city near you.

    AWESOME!!!

by Pete on 9/14/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

Airbourne is the most underrated band (in America only) but they are awesome!!! The show was great and the band was so entertaining (crowd surfing, drinking, sing along) and it made the whole night great! High energy, great set list and blistering rock & roll the way it should be played. The Paradise was the perfect place to see them, the newly renovated Paradise is great and the sound is perfect. Hope to see Airbourne enjoy continued success and hopefully America will wake up and support them.

    Airbourne Rocks the House Again!

by JT on 9/12/22Gramercy Theatre - New York

Airbourne is a great Aussie rock band in the spirit and style of AC/DC. I've seen them twice now at the Gramercy. Great show, great music. Joel, the lead singer, really engages with the crowd! He throws cups of beer, and passes out drinks. There's body slamming, hand clapping, and all of the the things that a real rock and roll/metal show are all about. Can't wait to see they boys again!

    Wow!!

    by Cardiac13 on 4/29/13Cherokee Casino - Cherokee

One of the best shows you will ever see. They were the opening band for Shinedown, but I wish it was the other way around. I will definitely be front row for the next show that they are the headline. They are loud energetic and talented. A must see for anyone who loves rock music!! Wow Moment: The lead singer/guitarist, Joel, jumped on the security guards shoulders. The security guard then ran Joel through the crowd as he ripped off an amazing guitar solo. They are keeping rock and roll alive. Show support and go see them, you will not be disappoint!

Best show I've ever been to!

by pjgosu on 4/25/13The Basement - Columbus

One of the best shows I've ever been to, and I've seen RHCP, Rush, Iron Maiden, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy. Part of it was that I was in the front row. These guys put on such a good performance, and were very good at engaging the crowd. At one point Joel smashed a beer on his head and sprayed everyone with it before jumping into the crowd to solo. One thing to note though, these guys are LOUD. My ears only returned to normal about 3 days after the show. Definitely bring earplugs.

This was the best most amazing event I've ever been to. I got to meet the lead singer and he was so cool about it. They were the best, I can't wait to see them again. And if you don't go to see Airbourne, then you can get out.

best rock and roll band in the land.

    by rockguitar316 on 4/24/13The Basement - Columbus

Airbourne is by far the best and most unforgettable rock and roll band of this generation. A loud show with many fans connecting with the band and each other making new friends was a great experience. Meeting the band afterwards was awesome too. If you've never heard of Airbourne but enjoy loud fast rock and roll you'd be dumb to miss this show. Simoly the best.

Getting to see one of my favorite bands in that intimate of a setting is a rare experience. It blows my mind that a band like Airbourne isn't headlining the Newport. That they were willing to play a show on the scale of the Basement and play it with the energy and enthusiasm that they did truly shows how committed they are to rock n' roll and their fans. I wish there were more bands like Airbourne; no frills, just straight up, fist pumpling, in your face, hard rock.

Most incredible performance I've EVER seen! I was speechless. These guys played the Basement like it was Madison Square Garden. They held nothing back. They have inspired me to give my all in everything that I do! Their performance was life changing for me.

    I am still deaf !

by mumfybumfy on 8/5/10The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

The stars of the show were Bleeker Ridge, great up and coming band from our town Orillia. They are going to be the next big thing, just you wait. Stuck around to hear Airbourne knowing that their music was not my thing. However we were actually delighted, deaf but delighted. I guess it is my age but I do not understand why on earth it needs to be so loud that you cannot make out what the lyrics are and all you hear is the throbbing head banging beat and your ears are a mess for the next day's work. Still we enjoyed their energy and performance.
