Excellent Show and Cast! The music was fantastic! Awesome!!
Great performance. I particularly enjoyed the second half
great show and the cast was so alive and energized. This is a great show and the music was fantastic. It would be even better if the band had some additional solo acts as well. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon reminiscing about the "old" days.
This is a great little theater within NJPAC, Victoria Theater, has a very convenient parking right across the street, and viewing is good from every seat in the theater. However, the sound quality was extremely poor, as the singers mics were not working properly. The male singers could barely be heard, and one of the female singers mics went out towards the end of the first act, very disappointing. the band could be heard fine however. Also, there was an annoying woman two rows in front of me who kept using her cellphone to video several minutes of each scene, very irritating. Many people complained about the bad sound at intermission, and the ushers were also requested to tell the woman to stop filming with her cellphone. The ushers were helpful and admonished her. and the sound was 100 percent better during the second act.
terrific cast performed with high energy, great ragtime dancing, smooth harmonies. love seeing shows back at NJPAC. small venue was intimate, not a bad seat in the house. only complaint was the tight legroom, especially for those of us 6 feet or taller. otherwise, terrific acoustics, solid stage size, good AV system and, most importantly, a high quality show.
The music was great, and the performers were “ on point”, celebrating the music of Fats Waller!!
Since it’s start in Broadway I’ve had a live for this show. And I can’t thank Mr DeShields enough for recreating this historical show and not changing it to appeal to today’s generation/society. It was better than any Christmas present. I’m just sorry it had such a short run.
The performance the actors the band was uplifting had me laughing happy going back in the day and uplifting experience the actors had amazing vocal cords they really sing their heart out
Great show. The singing and acting was great. The performers really got into character. It was especially fun when the two male actors got the audience to join in and sing the chorus of "Feets too Big" and "Fat and Greezy".
Very disappointed. Physical production looked cheap. Singers by and large couldn’t handle the music. On the other hand, musicians were amazing.
Play was excellent—especially the second act. The cast was talented and brought lot of energy to the performance
Victoria Theatre at NJPAC made the experience up close and personal! Fantastic performances by a stellar cast! Congratulations Crossroads Theatre Company for bringing excellence in Theatre to Newark, NJ while you are “On the Roads.”
This show was wonderful! To hear and see 5 people singing and dancing live with a piano player and a small ensemble(playing actual instruments) is incredible, especially in this time of so many electronic embellishments. I would highly recommend this show to students from about 3rd grade up. The songs were witty (even now), the harmonies were amazing. The only reason I rated this a 4 is because there was a little bit of an issue with the microphone of one of the male actors in the first half yet he still was great!
We went to dinner down neck newark and thought it would be a good idea to see a show at the PAC. Big mistake ! The show was horrible. I don't know if any of the cast had ever been on broadway but if they were it must have been a long time ago. We could have gone to ny to see Beautiful but we code this show . I thought it was just me but at the intermission my wife daughter and son in law asked if we could leave . Thank God. It's not as if the tickets were a bargain we paid $100 a seat. Felt bad walking out but couldn't take any more. Have never done that before. Sorry!
It was wonderful. My partner and I had front row seats. The performers interacted with the crowd. Everyone should see it. Need more advertisement on the event.
Music Hall and Wayne State University transport you back to 1920 and 1930 Harlem and the Ragtime music of Fats Waller. The venue is perfect for this show. The cast is convincing and sing and make you feel like you are there. Alvin Waddles on piano and Ralph Armstrong on Double Base were great. We throughly enjoyed ourself. Detroit has a lot of native talent and its well featured in this show. Im saving my playbill and will be looking for some of these WSU actor's names later on TV and Broadway. Interesting marketing for this show -- no marketing, but it sells out. Word of mouth works.
I enjoyed it very much. The brunch was tasty. The atmosphere was right on though it was a little cramped. The singing and acting was great. I sat near the rear and everything could be heard. Great show.
I expected a story line and there wasn't one. But the dancing and singing was superb!! I would definitely recommend this!! The venue is a bit uncomfortable if you have long legs.
For such a small troop, the performers were fantastic. Their timing for the music, singing and dance was wonderful, and they portray an expression of sincere enjoyment being able to perform for us, making the feeling mutual. "Great Show"
Musical staff, tech, musicians and vocalist were an excellent evening performance. Highest regards to the musical arranger's viewpoints and special lighting casts did an outstanding job! The Memories of the 20's - 30's came to life once more with fine costumes and characters of the period! A show worth the wait and affordable prices made it possible for an amazing time! Great big THANK YOU to all who made the grants possible towards this road tour!
