About

Verdi's operatic masterpiece is given a brilliant staging in this entirely new production by Woolmington. Featuring acclaimed Australian soprano Livia Brash in the title role, this tale of love and death set against the vastness of the Ancient Egyptian world is sung to the most vivid opera score ever written. This remarkable staging is a first for the Illawarra region and part of the season of Opera that brings the greatest music to the stage in an eclectic, exciting and edgy production that will set tongues wagging. A night to remember. The production is performed with two intervals of approximately 15 minutes each. Atmospheric effects including strobe lighting, smoke effects as well as nudity is incorporated into the production.

Great performance. Enjoyed it completely. But it would be better if we could understand what they were singing. Reading is not the same as hearing the same thing sung. I have heard operas in a language that I understood, and I think it adds immensly to the experience.

    Aida---fantastic

by tombas on 3/6/12Tucson Music Hall - Tucson

We have seen Opera at the Lyric in Chicago and elsewhere and this was as good as we've ever seen. Voices were strong and clear and the acting was excellent. Arizona Opera should be very proud of this great production of Aida.

Loved the cast, not the director

by BuffCrone on 3/6/12Tucson Music Hall - Tucson

Singing was sublime. Aida will be an international star, and Radames was extraordinary. Orchestra and conductor were terrific. Perfect balance of nuance to allow the singers to be heard. But the director must still be in high school! The relentless marching across the stage was like a corny, sad joke. The second two acts were better, but seriously. What were you thinking, that it's 1925?

    Aida a little loud-a

by ja9bird on 3/6/12Tucson Music Hall - Tucson

great performances, good sets, fine musicians - but when the orchestra seems to play too loud over some of the arias and you are sitting in the back row, I wonder what the expensive seats were thinking!

This was my first opera and I loved it! I hope they come back. I would definitely recommend this show to others. A real on-edge story line and very talented opera singers! Some of them were local too! AMAZING.

    Aida

Unforgettable! World class opera, memorable costumes in a beautiful venue. It was the first opera for my teenage son and it was thoroughly enjoyable. So proud that Honolulu can host such a quality production.

    Aida Shines

by LocalKanaka on 1/30/12Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I wanted an opera experience, and Verdi's Aida provided it all. For some of us in Hawaii, "opera" is high brow stuff and an unaffordable luxury. So a center seat in row Z was an inexplicable extravagance and adventure. My only knowledge of HOT is that a friend-of-a-friend's sister is Nola Nahulu, and her recommendation that "you gotta go see this thing!" The performance was amazing!

Strong performance by the main characters.

by Lacylady on 1/29/12Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Music and main characters were excellent. Wished that the scenery was more complex. Didn't care for the same type of background throughout. Intermission before the last act was not necessary.
