    Adrian reinvents the electric guitar!

    by celts17 on 10/29/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

OMG, now THAT's what I'm talking about. GREAT show! I never even heard of Adrian Below until I saw he was coming to The Narrows in December. Then I read that he'd been part of King Crimson, and that he had recorded and toured with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, and The Talking Heads (Frank had said "Adrian reinvented electric guitar"). That pedigree was enough for me, so when I also saw he was coming to Boston and a 6:45 PM show (a wonderful thing for this aging rocker, was home from Boston by 10:15!), I bought my ticket. I didn't know a single song, but that's OK, its good to expand one's musical horizons. Great guitar jams, great energy, a small but knowledgeable & enthusiastic crowd; looked like Adrian was having a great time too! I don't play an instrument, so I can't speak with great insights on the technical expertise; I'm more of a "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like" kind of guy. But the number of jaw dropping moments can be a good indication of what's going on, and Adrian's jams were sick and left me amazed. There are still a couple months left in 2014, but pretty safe to say this is the 'surprise' killer show of the year

Adrian was amazing, Tobias was INCREDIBLE!

by Anonymous on 10/28/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

I really loved this show! I love Adrian Belew. He's a blast to watch and is like none other when it comes to tone and ridiculous sounds coming out of his guitar. The surprise of the night was Tobias Ralph. That man is incredible. Again, Belew is great, but I'm a drummer and I couldn't not watch Tobias. Julie Slick (bassist) is no slouch either. But unfortunately the mix was such that I couldn't really hear her for most of the night. Anyway, I've seen the trio before (without Tobias) and will definitely be going again whenever they come back.
