About

Band members: GREG CARMICHAEL (Nylon Guitar); MILES GILDERDALE (Steel String Acoustic/Electric Guitars); FRED WHITE (Keyboards); GARY GRAINGER (Bass); and GREG GRAINGER (Drums and Percussion).

3x-GRAMMY Award Nominated Contemporary Jazz Fusion Band Acoustic Alchemy have been at the forefront of contemporary jazz for over three decades, even if the band's signature eclectic mix of styles has meant they have never comfortably fit snugly into any one genre.

We've had a lot of labels over the years, at the start there were all these names flying around like New Adult Contemporary, New Age music, and then it became Smooth Jazz, but we've never really thought about ourselves as being in any one particular genre. We just make music we like. Says Greg Carmichael, At the core it's always been about one simple concept: the sound of the nylon and steel guitars working together, but that leaves a lot of scope for exploring all sorts of musical ideas.

Acoustic Alchemy has delivered 22 acclaimed albums over 30+ years. From their very first album 'Red Dust and Spanish Lace' released in 1987, to the current release 'Thirty Three and a Third', they have spent over three decades defining and refining the sound of instrumental Jazz with hits such as Mr. Chow, Lazeez, Flamoco Loco, Catalina Kiss and Jamaica Heartbeat.

Not only critically acclaimed for their albums (including 3 GRAMMY Nominations), Acoustic Alchemy have also built a reputation for being one of the most exciting live bands in the business. Their shows are a perfect combination of virtuosity, musicality and fun for the fans, featuring a dazzling array of musical genres but all the time keeping their signature acoustic guitar sound out front.

    Superb!!!!!

by Ferg on 10/16/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Fans of AA for 34 years and see them every year in London. My wife has always wanted to see them in the States so for our 30th Anniversary, we fulfilled that desire. The boys were fantastic as ever. Seeing them with a very appreciative audience of Americans was brilliant. The venue was excellent! Played an extended set with every track a cracker! Particular highlights were all the solos especially the Grainger brothers! So good, we are seeing them again in December! Highly recommended even if you are not familiar with their music. Absolutely essential, if you are, and have not seen them live!!

Smooth Jazz in Redbank at the Vogel

by Jersey Joe on 10/16/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

The show was fantastic. It was amazing how tight the band was, considering that this was the first night of the tour. The band was spectacular. While the two guitarists are the stars of the show, the bass player, drummer and keyboardist were stars in their own right. I hadn't followed the band for a while, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Obviously, the band is still at the top of their game. The audience gave the band several ovations. If you have a chance, you should catch the band. Their albums are always good, but nothing beats seeing them live!

    Layout of seats

by Mike on 10/16/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

The last time I attended a concert there, the seats were too close to each other. This time it was better but I’m still not really comfortable with the layout. Sound and visibility was good. Entrance and egress was also good.

    Fantastic Music !

    by TFC on 7/12/23

If you get a chance to see acoustic alchemy, do not pass it up. I believe they said this was their last show of the tour and it showed. They put their hearts and souls into the music. Enjoyed every minute every note every song. Extremely talented musicians, who obviously enjoy what they do. In the crowd did to. I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

    Best show ever...

    by Marge S. on 7/12/23

We see a show every month from Alexandria, Richmond, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or Berks Jazz Fest. There are few words to describe such an amazing group of talented musicians who played together seamlessly. Each musician is a star in their own right and one could tell that they genuinely enjoyed playing together. Even though this was the last stop on their current tour, there was no evidence that they were tired of touring. They brought high energy and great music to the Birchmere. It was awesome.

    UK AT ITS BEST

    by Banana Pudding on 7/12/23

It was a fantastic show. This group got me through COVID19. The chemistry of the group and the sound is so awesome. I'm so glad they played in this region before returning home. To have them at the Rams Head Inn and the Birchmere. Complete overload. The BEST. The return of live jazz performances is therapy for the soul.

by Lover of music on 7/12/23

This was the third time we saw Acoustic Alchemy. The show was wonderful! I hope they come back soon, we will be right there. We hated to see the show end but singing Mr. Chow at the end was great.

    Incredible!

    by PDJ on 7/12/23

After decades of enjoying Acoustic Alchemy this performance far exceeded our expectation. Would like to have heard more of their earlier songs. It was worth the cost of the flight and hotel expense for this once in lifetime experience.

Accoustic Alchemy did not dissappoint! Great show. I guess many folks out here in the Tucson area don't know who they are. Was hoping for a packed house. But we had a great time!0
