About

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE IN CONCERT:

With a trippy sound reminiscent of ‘60s psychedelia, Japanese collective Acid Mothers Temple has been rocking out and blowing minds since the mid-‘90s. The group’s focus on bewitching instrumentals with driving, trance-inducing repetition has won them a devoted worldwide following. Featuring Kawabata Makoto’s Hendrix-meets-Ravi-Shankar lead lines, Satoshima Nani’s propulsive drumming, Tsuyama Atsushi’s droning bass, Higashi Hiroshi’s fluttering synthesizers, and Tabata Mitsuru’s graceful guitar parts, the band’s massive live sound transports audiences into another dimension. Whether ticket buyers are looking for a free-form throwback to Woodstock or a space rock expedition to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, Acid Mothers Temple is probably the best way to get there.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by Kawabata Makoto in 1995 with the intention of making “extreme trip music”, Acid Mothers Temple began making recordings greatly indebted to krautrock bands like Can and featuring various tape overdubs to create surreal sound-scapes. Soon, Makoto expanded the project to a performing collective, which began touring internationally around 1998. Aside from their mind-expanding music, the collective is known for its expansive, revolving list of members and prolific recorded output, totaling over 100 studio and live albums. Now pared down to their most consistent members, the group continues to build upon the synergy that has made them such a success in the neo-psychedelic scene. Their 2014 album Astrorgasm from the Inner Space received an expectedly warm review from fans and critics alike and has audiences clamoring to see the band live on tour.
