Ace Frehley Live in Concert

Born Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley in Bronx, New York, Ace Frehley started playing the guitar at 13. He never went to a music school, nor did he ever take a guitar lesson since every member of his family played instruments. He spent the early '70s in a series of local bands. In 1973, he co-founded the American rock band KISS. He departed the band in 1982 and went on to lead a successful solo career. His 1978 solo output -- KISS: Ace Frehley (released as part of the KISS solo albums) -- went platinum. In 1984, he assembled, amongst others, drummer Anton Fig and bassist John Regan to form a group with a name that alternated between Ace Frehley and Frehley's Comet. This group recorded a series of demos throughout 1984 and 1985, and performed their first-ever live show at S.I.R. Studios in New York City on November 30, 1984. In 1987 he released Frehley's Comet and it charted on the Billboard 200. He subsequently returned to KISS in 1996 for a highly successful reunion tour. In 2004, he tied with Paul Stanley at No. 14 on Guitar World's list of the 100 Greatests Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time. Frehley's influences include artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Albert Lee, among others. In 2014, Frehley, along with the original members of KISS, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His 2020 solo album Origins, Vol. 2, charted on the Billboard 200.

    TOO LOUD

by QBSparky on 3/21/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

The set list was not what I expected. Too many KISS songs that weren't his. Not enough songs from his solo albums, especially the new one! His playing was fine, and the other guys in the band were ok. But it was way too loud for a hall that size! I have been a fan for over 30 years, and like the new record; but I would have done a much different show. I would also fire the sound guy, NOW!

by Phoneman68 on 3/21/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Ace never disappoints. He does all the KISS classics, and throws in plenty of his solo material. Certainly a fun night out for any KISS/Ace fan. Going again tonight at Nokia Theatre in N.Y.C.

Playing at the top of his game!

by Allguitarshouldsmoke on 11/16/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

All in all I've seen Ace live about a dozen times in the last 25 years. I also was lucky enough to see him twice in 2008, not to mention meeting him before one of the shows. I was inspired by and can totally appreciate his struggles with sobriety. He is truly an under-appreciated guitar legend. People have been inspired and copy his licks all the time. Back to 2008, I have to say that thing that impressed me the most was the caliber of musicians that he is playing with. The band clearly is 25-30 years younger but fit perfectly. These guys are energetic and actually sound better tha Kiss on several numbers. I am a big Kiss fan also. I think that this band is a perfect blend of talent and it brings out the best of Ace. So pay attention 2008 = very, very good. So this gets me to the 2009 show at the HOB in Cleveland. In the time that my wife and I saw him in 2008, he has release a new disc: Anomaly. So we were pretty sure that there would be a fair share of new songs played. I didn't write down the numbers that he played, but the set was flawless. A blend of new and old. Two songs that really shined: "Sister" (new, favorite new track), "Love Her All I Can" (Never remove this from the setlist!-it is an outstanding showcase of how good this band is), "Love Gun" (really, I'm not a Kiss hater at all - this was better than the latest Kiss tour version, light years) and "Rocket Ride" (the best I've ever seen him play-total showcase of Ace's skill). Bottom line, this tour should blow everyone away --> go see them, you won't believe it. Ace is truly at the top of his game. Best Ace show I've ever seen. Go to see him, there are not that many dates before he goes over seas. Everyone's in for a treat.

Ace is back - back and then some!

by keekeeree on 11/14/09Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Flashback - I caught Ace last year at the Newport - a great show supported by his new band who were tight and entertaining - which is good because Ace plays it a little loose sometimes. But with Ace, it's the feeling of his playing and performance that's key. He's an artist, not a technician. Great show. Last night Ace was AMAZING! He was loose, having fun playing the rock star and guitar god with more confidence in his vocals. Most surprisingly was the improvement in his playing - he was spot-on TIGHT! I've heard Ace say of himself that his playing is improving because of his sobriety. Man, there's NO denying that. I've never heard him sound that good. He has become the artist AND the technician. Wow.

    "Hot" time in Columbus

by AceIsBack on 11/13/09Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Last night was far and away the best Ace Frehley concert I have ever seen! I have followed KISS since 1976 and Ace has always been my favorite. To that end, I have seen him every time he plays! Ace and the band sounded incredible, the stage set was awesome and I really enjoyed the set list. Interestingly enough, Ace didn't do a single song from any of his solo work after KISS. He did, however, play about 17 songs including 4 from the new 'Anomaly'. I thought he would do "Outer Space" and "Sister" but he also did "Foxes on the Run" and "Foxy and Free" which is one of my favorite tracks! He kicked off the concert with "Shout it out loud" instead of the traditional "Rip it out" and was in absolute MINT form throughout! Looked great and sounded even better!

    ACE FREHLEY still ROCKS!!!

by corvairdoug on 11/13/09Newport Music Hall - Columbus

The show started with SHOUT IT OUT LOUD, and the crowd was never quiet from that point on!!! Ace still has what it takes to wow a crowd with his guitar and showmanship. I think he's favored even more as the "black sheep" of the old band. EVERYBODY loves him, he's still on his game!!! His band, probably all half his age, backed him like they've been with him for decades. He's picked a great group of guys, and together they rock the house. WELL DONE!!

Ace still Rocks!!! We drove all the way from Virginia to see the show. Well worth the trip!! I'd do it again in a minute! It was the first time we had ever been to the House of Blues. The atmosphere was great. We were able to get in the front row, how awsome! The whole city of Cleveland was great. We really want to go back.

    Ace Frehley HOB 11-11-2009

by Doogbomb on 11/13/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

He once was the Famous Space Ace of the legendary band KISS, but since his departure from the band, Ace hasn't missed a beat. Opening with "Rip It out" and finishing his exciting performance with Cold Gin, I had to pick my jaw off the floor. I've been a KISS fan since 1974, but from watching one of the Greatest guitarist in the world today, still kicking butt, Rock-N-Rolling, I will "Alway's" be a Ace Frehley fan 4-Ever ! Wish he could of played for at least 3 hrs, but I settled for the 1 hr and 45 minutes of explosive music and sights. Ace Fan Forever Robert !
