After years of playing violin I learn something new amazing
Love Joshua Bell and the Academy. Second time seeing them at CSUN. See this show if they return again. Highly recommended.
Joshua Bell is unsurpasable and the Valley performing arts center has great acoustics, helpful ushers and good sightlines as well as convenient parking.
CREATIVE ARTISTIC GENIUS AND VIRTUOSITY, BLENDED WITH LOVE AND PASSION, MADE THIS EVENING ONE THAT WILL BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MATCH.----REGARDLESS OF THE MUSICAL VENUE
Doesn't get any better than this. One of the world's foremost classical orchestras...and no conductor! Everything was top notch...a privilege to hear them perform!
What more can I say? One of the most famous orchestras in the world led by one of the violin greats. You can't go wrong. So, yes, it was wonderful!
Every instrument had all stars in the principal chairs, from the strings to the brass, to the woodwinds, to the percussion. It was undetectable that that for several minutes no one was visibly conducting, but when Joshua Bell conducted, there was some subtle impact -- what a group of pros! Joshua Bell is clearly world-class in his technique, musicianship, and tone quality. This was my first time at the venue and was quite impressed with the acoustics and the ambiance. It was unfortunate that the audience was not savvy enough to withhold applause between movements of the Brahms Violin Concerto; Bell was visibly annoyed when it happened a second time (between the second and third movements). Thankfully, no applause between movements of the Eroica.
What an incredible concert. The technical perfection of this ensemble plus the poetry of Joshua Bell's playing together were an amazing combination. Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven were an eclectic combination that showed off all sides of everyone's talents. It's always difficult playing the violin and conducting at the same time, and there were a few imperfect entries, but overall the entire ensemble matched up well with Joshua's conducting. It was also fun to watch everyone's faces and their movements getting into the music.
Outstanding program (Mozart & Beethoven), performance, venue (Performing Arts Center at CSUN) and audience response. A great evening overall
One could not go wrong with a world class orchestra and its world class music director. But it was enhanced by a beautiful concert space--one of the nicest I've seen in the LA area.
Joshua Bell plays with both great technical skill and passion. Everything the group played was excellent. Bell's execution of the Brahms Violin Concerto was wonderful. We also truly enjoyed his interpretation of the Beethoven 3rd. This is one of the great chamber orchestras in world. We felt truly privileged to hear them.
Very nice concert. Would have given 5 stars, but the moderator of the discussion did a poor job of soliciting questions from the audience. Let the audience have a chance!!!!!
This was the first time we were able to attend the Chamber Music series in Portland. It was fabulous. I wish we lived closer and could attend more often.
