About

Aaron Lee Tasjan on Tour

Aaron Lee Tasjan is not just an in-demand guitarist, but a witty and candid singer-songwriter in his own right. The Ohio native has long been an ace on stage, impressing audiences of all ages since he was a teenager. While in high school, he was already performing alongside Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary).

After graduating, he set off for a whirlwind music career in the Big Apple, starting out as the original guitarist for glam rockers Semi Precious Weapons. From there, he began working with numerous artists, including Drivin' N' Cryin', and most notably, filling in as the lead guitarist for punk icons the New York Dolls in 2009.

It wasn't until he moved to Nashville in 2013 that he put full focus on his solo career. He's since taken his country-tinged act on the road, from Nashville's Americana Fest to San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival all the way to Northern Europe. His performances bring 1970s singer-songwriter flair with a wholly modern appeal.

Aaron Lee Tasjan Background

Aaron Lee Tasjan's bluesy Americana and psychedelic-tinged roots rock is both nostalgic and a breath of fresh air. His solo work recalls singer-songwriter legends like Tom Petty and Harry Nilsson, all with wit and whimsy.

Born and raised in New Albany, Ohio, Tasjan started teaching himself guitar at the age of 11. Only five years later, he took his first trip to New York City to receive the Outstanding Guitarist Award at the Essentially Ellington competition at Lincoln Center. Soon after, the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston called to offer him a full-ride scholarship, but the restless Tasjan turned it down to dive headfirst into the music scene in New York. There, he helped found glam-rock band Semi Precious Weapons in 2006.

Two years later, after the release of their debut album, We Love You, he left the group and formed The Madison Square Gardeners. He also worked alongside BP Fallon and collaborated with artists including Jack White, Sean Lennon, and Texas country vet Pat Green. But by 2013, Tasjan was ready to be front and center, so he headed out to Nashville and finally self-released his solo full-length debut, In the Blazes, in 2015.

Soon after, he signed to New West Records, who released his second album, Silver Tears, the following year. With every release, including 2018's Karma for Cheap, Tasjan continues to flesh out his sound even further, giving his fresh Americana a sweet shot of psychedelic rock and power pop.
