Washington Wizards History

Founded in 1961, the Washington Wizards franchise has called Chicago, Baltimore, Landover, Maryland. and Washington, D.C. home. Known earlier as the Packers, Zephyrs and Bullets, the franchise changed its name to the Wizards in 1997.

After earning two playoff appearances in their first five seasons in Baltimore, the team started a formidable run of postseason success starting in the 1968–69 season. Led by Hall of Famers Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld (and later Elvin Hayes), the Bullets went to the playoffs 12 seasons in a row, including four trips to the Finals and a championship in 1978. Behind an MVP performance from Unseld, Washington defeated Seattle in a decisive Game 7 to clinch the title.

Five consecutive postseason appearances highlighted the Bullets’ 80s. The franchise bounced back in the early 2000s, built around the core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. That trio led Washington to four straight playoff appearances from 2005–2008. Since then, the Wizards have qualified for the postseason five times behind All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, the latter of which became one of six players in NBA history to average 30-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons.

    Washington Wizards Game vs. Brooklyn

by georgeminjackHTTR on 1/2/24Capital One Arena - Washington

I had an amazing experience, I got tickets in Sec 113 Row A for an amazing price and saw a Wizards W. I got in early because I’m a Capital One Cardholder, didn’t have to use it just had to show it to them. Team store is amazing and same with the guest services and security. On top of that the Wizards won 110-104!

Event was good but The Experience was NOT

by JC on 12/30/23Capital One Arena - Washington

Very confusing entries. Had a hard time to get in and not all entries offered the complementary plush, which we didn’t have one at the end after 20min of search.

    Good deal

by DCguy on 12/16/23Capital One Arena - Washington

I bought my wizards tickets on a holiday special offer. If you live in the district the weeknight games can be a good deal. It's tough to beat seeing an NBA team for $20.

    Fun night out buy pricey

    by A. o. on 11/27/23

Game was fun to watch even though we lost. The seating was wonderful really no bad seat, prices was over the top for food and drinks, recommend eat before go, a few nice places near by that you could come early and eat near the venue and save some time standing in line and let them keep the fourteen dollar beers

    Embarassing

by Vale on 11/18/23Capital One Arena - Washington

Right now it’s a waste of money. 90.-$ to watch the team lose. There is no defense, no strategy, it seams that none of the players has the gut to shoot the ball and then the numerous faults. No wonders the stadium yesterday was only filled with Nicks fans! Entertainment is also quite disappointing. I better invest my money somewhere else.

The stadium was clean and nice and many entrance so didn’t have to wait to get in. I wasn’t able to pay for anything in cash so that was inconvenient.

    Wowee Wizards!

by LondonJane on 10/17/23Capital One Arena - Washington

This was the first basketball game I have ever attended and wow, what an event. Americans certainly know how to put in a show. Music, dancers, quizzes, mascot nonsense - it had it all. Oh, and a tiny bit of sport thrown in. Well done Wizards!

Overwhelmed by commercial ads and noise

by Marco on 4/13/23Capital One Arena - Washington

First time I watched an NBA match live and it really wasn't a nice experience. There was a big set of screen coming down from the ceiling and it was really overwhelming, I felt like I went there just to watch useless noisy tv advertisements. I went there because I wanted to see a basketball match, but the experience is totally ruined by the crazy amount of ads, talks, loud music coming from speakers and screens. I totally accept that this is kind of normal, but I really felt it was really too much, there wasn't any real focus on the match, which looked like just a non-considered non-relevant part of an ads show. Also, in the Capital One Arena there is a crazy policy that does not allow you to bring any bags, mainly because they want to save money and avoid paying more employees to handle the necessary extra work. I have read on internet that there are lockers available, but it is not clear where; bringing bags is clearly forbidden/discouraged. The venue is really beautiful and services/food shops are great, but they should focus more on basketball and fans, otherwise I would really stay away and prefer to watch events on TV.

    Ridiculous legroom space

by JaviMad on 4/7/23Capital One Arena - Washington

An NBA Arena can’t have such horrible legroom space. Even if the average person could fit, there’s no space left for people to walk in front. Painful experience to sit in such a tiny space. Even low-cost airlines have more legroom space!
