Wanda Sykes has been deemed one of the funniest stand up comics by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly's 25 Funniest People in America.
Sykes was seen on several television shows over the past two years. This year she made a return to HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” starring opposite Larry David. In 2010 she starred on her own late night talk show on FOX, “The Wanda Sykes Show”. In October of 2009 her second HBO stand up special “I’ma Be Me” premiered. It was taped at the Warner theatre in Washington DC where she tackled topics like the first black president, gay cruises, being a new mom and aging. The special was nominated for two 2010 Primetime Emmy awards: Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.
This July she can be heard in the animated feature “Ice Age: Continental Drift” as ‘Granny.’ In 2010 she was heard in the Fox animated feature “Rio” as ‘the Goose.’
Her first HBO comedy special “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired” debuted in October 2006 and was nominated for a 2007 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. It was taped in Seattle and covered everything from racial profiling to gay marriage.
Sykes was seen in the feature films “Evan Almighty,” the sequel to “Bruce Almighty,” in which she co-starred with Steve Carell, the New Line feature “Monster-In-Law” starring opposite Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, and was heard in the animated feature “Over the Hedge” for Dreamworks as well as “The Barnyard” for Paramount Pictures. She can also be seen co-starring with Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman in the romantic comedy “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.” Sykes starred and produced the Comedy Central show "Wanda Does It" where she tried various non-showbiz jobs. Her first book titled Yeah, I Said It, published by Simon & Schuster, hit bookstores in September 2004. Yeah, I Said It is a hilarious collection of essays touching on life, family and current events.
In the fall of 2003 she was seen on Fox's "Wanda at Large" which she wrote, produced and starred in. She also has a one hour Comedy Central special called "Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied". In addition, she can be seen on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" or heard on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers” as the voice of Gladys Murphy.
Wanda was born in Portsmouth, VA and raised in Maryland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Her stand-up career began at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC where she performed for the first time in front of a live audience.
She spent 5 years as part of HBO's critically acclaimed "Chris Rock Show." As a performer and writer on the show, she was nominated for three Primetime Emmys and in 1999 won the Emmy for "Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special." In 2001, she won the American Comedy Award for "Outstanding Female Stand Up Comic". She won three more Emmys, in 2002, 2004 and 2005 , for her work on “Inside the NFL” for Outstanding Studio Show - Weekly- Inside The NFL.
In 2010 she won a GLAAD award for promoting equal rights for gays and lesbians in the media.
She also appeared in the feature films: "Pootie Tang", "Nutty Professor 2; The Klumps", and "Down to Earth".

I loved it/ She was delightful and so was her opening at. It was just as I expected. I don't understand why it started so late, however.
Wanda was fabulous as usual! The event uses Yondr pouches which is a huge inconvenience. I believe it is required at her comedy shows. I would never attend another one if this is the case. Adults can silence their phones. You literally have to wait in a line to lock your phone or smartwatch in a case to get into the venue. If you have someone at home you might need to check on you have to go to the lobby to get your phone unlocked. When the show is over you get to wait in another line to get your phone case unlocked. Huge inconvenience.
She is always so funny! It was great to see her again!
Wanda did not disappoint - one of the best comedy shows i've seen in a while. Don't miss!
Aside from the obvious that Wanda Sykes was hysterical, the venue was run smoothly. Getting everyone seated, with their phones put away, and unlocking their phones at the end of the show. A plus was the Dolby Venue. Go early and grab great sushi from the nearby sushi bar just upstairs in the center.
I discovered Wanda on Ellen and she always used to talk about her family and herself. Now the first big part of the show was about her age and “being old”, the middle was about her family and herself (this part was actually funny and relevant) and the last part was about politics. I know that all the comedians like to include politics in their acts but this was a lot, and with details about a trial that I didn’t know. It was boring. She is not what she used to be.
Loved the show. The opening act was very good and funny. Wanda was spectacular as always. Dolby Theater is absolutely amazing.
Wanda is always very funny, but the show contained some bits from her other Netflix pieces; however, I love her and enjoyed the show.
Wanda tells it like it is!! Enjoyed her show and laughed till I couldn’t!! She’s a must see!!
Seating fiascos all around. The seat numbers are not unique and when they take your phones you have no way to prove where your ticketed seats are. Very stressful with everyone seated incorrectly.
Show was pretty good but not "wow". Started at 8:30 and finished at 10. Parking was horrendous due to another Netflix is a Joke show at the hollow Bowl plus a red carpet event in Hollywood Blvd closed down the street.
While it was a funny show and I love Wanda Sykes, I felt that she played this safe for the audience she was serving. When she plays smaller improv venues, she is way funnier but it is apparent she had to contain herself for the Dolby Theater and she had to serve a ration of self-deprecation to a mostly white audience at the Dolby in order to keep them happy and Netflix happy. Many of the jokes she had already told before and there was too much of that irony of "I'm a black person serving white people in my own family", which the majority white audience loved to hear. It was safe for the audience present, funny in several instances but rather redundant which is not what I am accustomed to from Wanda Sykes performance. I will totally see Wanda again but hopefully it is at a smaller venue with an audience that is more diverse than what I experienced at the Dolby.
Wanda Sykes is a rockstar of comedy. Hubby, daughter and I will return to see her again and again. But please find another venue. The parking situation was MENACING!
Te show was excellent. The ambience was delightful. It was worth the wait
The show was AMAZING but getting into the theater was a complete nightmare! We saw the second show of the evening and the first show was just letting out at the time our show was supposed to start. We literally stood in line in the street for over an hour (an hour after the show was supposed to start and we arrived early) to get in. The show obviously started late. Please plan show times more appropriately.
My girlfriends and I had a wonderful time .The whole show was a treat. So many laughs made for a memorable Sunday evening :)
Fantastic Show!! I would definitely see her again and I would definitely recommend her to everyone!!
The show started with a comedian that was excellent! Love Wanda! She is hysterical but she goes political the last half hour. I don’t agree or disagree with her views but I rather not hear about politics after I laughed so hard the hour before. People who didn’t agree with her actually got up and left. I much rather she start the show with politics, and end it with me still laughing even on the ride home. Since she still makes me laugh, I wouldn’t hesitate to see her again.
Wanda did not disappoint. Wanda put on a great show, we were cracking up and it turned out to be a fun night out.
