About

When a black man is falsely accused of raping a white woman, a small town in America's Deep South is set alight by the pitiless flames of racial prejudice. Local lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth in a lone struggle for justice that inspires his children Scout and Jem and pricks the conscience of a community steeped in hatred and hypocrisy.

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest novels of all time, Harper Lee's monumental classic of racial tension and childhood interrupted by the ugly confusions of the adult world has lost none of its power to captivate and disturb. Published in the year JFK went to the White House, it caught the mood of the Civil Rights Movement and sold tens of millions of copies worldwide.

Unflinching and unforgettable, To Kill a Mockingbird is a soaring and searing tribute to human dignity and the enduring power of the right words, at the right time, to change hearts and minds for good.

    To Kill a Mockingbird

Liked the show, but the character, Jem acted like he had anger issues towards everyone. Every time he had a line, he seemed like he was yelling and his arms were streched out withhis hands in the fist position. It started to anoy me.

The production was amazing with the exception of the actor that played Jim. He was such an over actor that it the rest of the production suffered.

To Kill a Mockingbird - bird was in need of help

One of my favorite plays/novels - The actors used/had such a severe drawl, that I understood at the very most, 50% of the dialogue. Very disappointing at all levels.

To Kill a Mockingbird was great!!

by pcteacher on 11/19/09Hershey Theatre - Hershey

I would recommend this show to anyone who truly enjoyed Harper Lee's story. It was pretty true to the story's plot line and the actors/actresses that were chosen to play Lee's characters were right on to their true selves in the story. Their dialect, accents, and mannerisms put me right into the old south during the 1930s. The only problem that I had with the play was that the sound quality was difficult at times. Many of the actors/actresses voices seemed mumbled and jumbled and were hard to understand. Very much likely could have been the acoustics in the theatre.

    Mockingbird worth your time.

by GKMom on 11/19/09Hershey Theatre - Hershey

The stage adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is an excellent way to experience this timeless story of the effects of racism in a southern town, during the 1930s. The set is very flexible, and the story told in part by one of the characters narrating major events. All the elements of this timeless story are present. Overall, a well done drama.

Atticus' performance was embarrassing -- solely responsible for the 1-star rating. The man talked like he was constantly laughing at some inside joke; of course, his performance wasn't helped by the writing, which changed the character from an upright individual who scolded his children for mocking Arthur "Boo" Radley and respectfully cross-examined the perjuring Mayella (sp?) Ewell, to a clown who made "Boo" out to be a boogeyman and a shark who threatened and mocked Ms. Ewell in the courtroom -- "You have nothing to fear from me . . . yet."

You couldn't have selected better actors for To Kill a Mockingbird. They all seemed to fit their characters perfect. I didn't know what to expect since I love the book and movie. The actor who portrayed Atticus Finch really brought him to life.

    Mockingbird kill

by johnsr on 7/13/09Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Although the actors performed admirably the work didn't flow smoothly. The story lined followed the film version and the book for the most part but left out some important elements and/or changed others. Needs additional work.

To kill a Mockingbird was Amazing

by Roberts on 7/12/09Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The show was awesome! The cast was absolutely perfect. The Opera House was stunning as usual, always a great time. The only bad part of the entire evening was this woman sitting directly behind me frantically coughing, for the Entire play! You would think an usher could have asked her to leave the theatre and get some water, no one ever did!

    Suprisingly Excellent

by Greenboy on 7/11/09Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Going to a play is something that my wife and I would usually never do, However when we saw that To Kill a Mockingbird was being performed we thought that if we ever did go to a play this would be the one. We both love the story, read the book, own the movie etc. At first, seeing that the role of Jem was being played by a girl, we thought that it was going to suck. But, we soon learned what a fine actress she is. The gender thing made absolutely no difference at all. We all know the movie and the way that Gregory Peck portrayed Atticus Finch, The actor who played him had a whole different take on Atticus. He made him out to be a much more loving and emotional father than Peck did. We always knew that Atticus loved his children, but this actor really proved it! I teared up near the end of the production even though I knew what was coming next!
