When the Super Furry Animals (from Cardiff, Wales) first emerged onto the music scene in 1993, they set themselves apart from other post-alternative bands of the mid '90s by releasing two EPs sung entirely in their native language. Their progressive rock meets techno meets power pop sound quickly won them a large local following, which turned into a much wider audience when the band eventually decided to begin recording songs in English. Their full length debut album Fuzzy Logic was released in 1996 to much critical praise, and it became a major hit in England where it charted in the Top 40. Singles such as "Something 4 the Weekend" and "If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You" were huge Summer/Fall hits in 1996. With fame also came infamy when the eccentric band decided to attend a number of 1996 music festivals in a large tank! Their second album, Radiator was released in 1997, followed by Guerrilla (1999) and MWNG (2000). An ambitious work in 2001, Rings Around the World, features guest appearances by Paul McCartney and John Cale. 2005 saw the release of a compilation album, Songbook: The Singles, Vol. 1, and a new record, Love Kraft.
