SAY ANYTHING IN CONCERT:

Emo/pop punk band Say Anything have mastered the art of penning infectious, melodic pop songs without losing their edge, continually pushing their sound  forward by incorporating elements from genres as far-ranging as math rock and indie pop. The band expertly balances their high-octane material with frontman Max Bemis' softer side, treating fans at their live shows to the full gamut of sonic experience, from frenetic barn burners like "Alive With the Glory of Love" to introspective acoustic songs like "Belt." With their highly anticipated eighth album Hebrews due out in the summer of 2014, the band will hit the road on tour in support of the release.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Los Angeles in 2000, Say Anything self-released their first two EPs, Junior Varsity and In Your Dreams, as well as their debut full-length Baseball:  An Album by Sayanything. In 2004 they made their label debut with ...Is a Real Boy, released on Doghouse Records to a Top 10 spot on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Despite lineup changes and several hiatuses brought on by health issues suffered by frontman Max Bemis, the band's next three albums were all Top 40 hits on the Billboard 200, making them a festival staple and constant presence on the Vans Warped Tour. In support of the 2014 release of eighth album Hebrews, the band once again hits the road for another round of high-octane shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Say Anything put on an incredibly upbeat and amazing show. If you get the chance to see these guys live... it's a must!"

" From the moment they took the stage to the moment Max left, the venue was filled with energy. It was probably one of the best concert experiences I have ever had."

" Say Anything was, of course, spectacular. It was super exciting to hear them play so many of their older songs that I never thought I'd get to hear live. Overall, great show!"

    Great Openers and Good Show!

by Mariah M on 5/1/24House of Blues Houston - Houston

I went in not knowing that I knew the openers but being so glad they were added to the tour. AJJ was such a treat. The venue was weird; I'm from Dallas and I think our House of Blues is laid out a little better. Max's performance was energetic and exciting but I feel like I heard way more of an audience show than a Say Anything show. The sound was mixed strange and it felt very flat which is odd considering how good AJJ's set sounded. Still, it was a great show.

    Mixed Emotions

by deblood on 5/1/24House of Blues Houston - Houston

I had such high hopes for the Say Anything show as Is A Real Boy is my favorite album from the group. I have mixed emotions about the show as it was great in some areas but also not so great in other areas. I was disappointed that I was not able to get in line for merchandise as the line was super long and there was only 1 person running the booth. We tried 3 separate times in 3 hours to get in line and the line just would not move. So I suggest more merch tables or even more people running the booth. I also was disappointed that the band did not play the entire album as advertised. There were about 4 songs not performed and i was hoping we would hear the entire album as promised. Max had great energy most of the time but was disappointed he had the mic on the crowd during a lot of key songs. We paid money to hear him sing! So overall, happy I went but think there's some kinks to iron out.

    A Show without a Singer

by Shaun Carson on 4/30/24House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Max clearly didn't wanna be there. He seemed to be having another one of his mental breakdowns live on stage and was high. I understand there was gonna be a lot of singing along from the crowd but they basically carried the vocals. He spent more time vaping or screaming than actually singing. The acoustic duet with Sherri was the only time he actually sang the whole way through. A little disappointed to say the least as I've seen them numerous times before but this was not their best.

unfortunate song choices due to 3 nights booked

by Lifelong Say Anything fan on 10/22/23The Regent Theater - Los Angeles

My title refers to set lists and encores missing out on some iconic songs based on which night you went. Sucha rough area, I woulda preferred they have 5 separate scheduled nights at the troubadour or somewhere smaller but safer neighborhood instead. The singular exit to the theater also made getting in, moving around people to GA, and time to leave very stressful - I truly assume people would’ve died if a fire broke out, even a small one. Absolutely loved the light show along with the band wall projection behind them, great visuals overall. SA didn’t come out til 9 for a listed 7:30pm show, so that gives you an idea of how much the openers play for, which personally I find to be a little long for such unknown names. No one’s fault there, but I’m sure an hour & a half of a co-headliner worthy popular band would’ve been more tolerable. Max’s singing, energy, and the energy spread between him and the band members were just awesome. I love how he changes up melodic harmonies/cadences to make the songs we know and love so much feel truly live and original for us as paying concert goers. It’s dope. Interesting, fun show overall.

Got the tickets free from a friend but not a huge fan of the band. The live show was decent though!

The sound quality was very poor at the event, way too loud and not in the I'm so old and his music is too loud, but so loud to the point that you couldn't decipher what song was what, because you couldn't make out the beat or lyrics.

Terrible sound quality. If I didn't know all of the words I would have not had any idea what anyone was saying! They barley played any old songs :(

I bought these tickets as a birthday gift for my little sister. I didn't know the band but they are her all time favorite. I have never had such a good time at a concert! Say Anything was a great show with great energy and incredible sound.

Say Anything is a consistently great band on stage and in studio. This performance was no exception. They played a lot of deep cuts this time around, and the strings added a subtle touch to the songs. The band was in good spirits and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. My only complaint is that the venue was incredibly hot, and a little narrow for the event.

    Disheartening, disappointing, infuriating

by xanyax on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

I was very excited to see Say Anything for the first (and now last) time. I suppose something can be said for the eight musicians on stage who were professional enough to provide a solid performance. However, when the lead singer is too wasted to stand up by himself or sing coherently and in time to the music it's not really a show it's just an embarrassment. What happened Friday night is disrespectful and alienating to the fans. And it's upsetting to see a musician you look up to in that condition. It was just painful. I stayed hoping they would send him offstage and let someone else sing as a final attempt to salvage the show. That didn't happen and I wish it had been cancelled. It was a waste of time and money.

    Waste of Money

by DisappointedWife on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

The lead singer of Say Anything was completely wasted and put on a terrible show. He was falling, knocking over microphone stands, and was barely slurring out the lyrics. I bought the tickets for my husband as a gift and feel terrible that it was a waste of our time and money. I know we are not the only ones who were disappointed. We only made it through 4 songs before we left, and there was a group of people outside talking with staff about how to receive a refund.

    YIKES

by trapmamix on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

Personally, $30 to watch a drunken mess (max from say anything) walk off stage, constantly fall, and spit all over the crowd wasn't worth the money. Modern Baseball was incredible, as always. But the uncomfortableness of watching a grown man babble on stage and cause issues for the other people on stage all doing so well was irritating.

    Pathetic

by JayyR on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

Looks like Max is drinking heavily again. He was incoherent and fell off stage twice before I left during the 5th song. The whole place was basically empty by then. Save your money. Unless you wanna see modern baseball on this your, they're worth your money.

Max so intoxicated, could barely sing/stand

by Anonymous on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

I have been looking forward to this show for 5+ years and left extremely disappointed and uncomfortable after trying to stick it out past the third song. Max entered the stage while stumbling and slurring his words and remained extremely intoxicated for the rest of the time my husband and I were there (and after we left, until the show ended early according to online accounts). The rest of the band and string quartet were extremely graceful about the situation and played wonderfully while their frontman was hanging all over them, their instruments, and basically falling over the entire time. This is all not to mention that he fell off the stage twice.
