In 2025, Sacramento is preparing to host MLB. From my experience at this AAA baseball game, there will need to be some upgrades. On the upside, there's a good amount of parking, the experience at the entry gate was smooth and there was a lively atmosphere. Concessions were varied and good. The seating area is fairly flat which makes it easy for people with mobility challenges to walk down the steps, and the seats were comfortable. The national anthem was played by a school band who did a great job. On the downside, the lighting will need to be improved, a lot, unless they're only playing day games, and from a fan's standpoint, the sound system is trash. I was sitting about five rows behind first base, in the core part of the ballpark, and could barely hear a thing - the sound system was weaker than the class A ballparks in Modesto and Visalia and not in the same universe as an MLB park. It looked like their promo department was doing good work but when you can't hear what they're doing, it's a bit of a waste. A bit more variety in the sound clip department would be good, too - "everybody clap your hands"is fine once per game, but the fourth time round it loses its lustre. Sacramento's ballpark is sufficient for AAA and should handle MLB okay (there were 9,000 fans at this AAA game, and only 7,000 fans in Oakland at the game I attended a week earlier) but they need to start from scratch on their all-parts-of-the-ballpark sound system if they're hosting the big leagues.
