About

Rodrigo y Gabriela on Tour

Do you want flamenco with your heavy metal? Acid rock with your classical guitars? If so, Rodrigo y Gabriela are at your service. Known for a double-guitar attack that translates heavy-metal power to nylon-stringed classical guitars played with flamenco fury, Rodrigo y Gabriela are openhearted entertainers whose musical passion bridges classical and contemporary styles to create a world of its own. Alone on stage, they evoke the passion and precision of heavy metal — such as Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica — and, more recently, the expansive meditations of vintage Pink Floyd. The Mexico City–based guitar duo toured the United States and Europe in 2019 to support their eighth album, Mettavolution.

Rodrigo y Gabriela in Concert

Mexico City natives Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero have been perfecting their rapid-fire fusion of Latin harmonies and rhythms with rock structure since the 2006 release of Rodrigo y Gabriela, which included acoustic cover versions of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Metallica's "Orion." After meeting in art school as metal-loving teenagers, the couple forged their musical and emotional alliance while busking through Europe. During an eight-year residence in Galway, Gabriela learned how to transfer the driving bodhran-drum rhythms of Irish folk music to her classical guitar.

The instrumentalists continued to play cover songs and salute their influences on concept albums like 11:11 and 9 Dead Alive. Rodrigo y Gabriela's 2019 release, Mettavolution, was their first in five years. It consists of a handful of original tracks topped off by a 19-minute cover version of "Echoes," the sprawling, subtle and mysterious Pink Floyd epic that took up the entire second side of that band's 1971 album Meddle. The title track of Mettavolution, on the other hand, is a typically dynamic Rodrigo y Gabriela explosion of slaps, strums and rapid-fire runs. The title reflects the duo's belief in evolution through compassion, which here translates into nothing less than sheer rock nirvana.

    Amazing

by Heatherly on 4/29/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

My first time seeing them live, and a week later still blown away. The music, their talent, the reciprocal appreciation between artist & audience, the performance itself - all far beyond what I expected. I could have stayed watching and listening to them for hours. If you have the chance, go see them! Thank you, R & G!

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Do Not Miss!

by stevejc on 4/28/24Capital One Hall - Tysons

If you're a music lover, you'll absolutely enjoy this show. We'd seen them a few years ago and loved their exciting, dynamic showmanship and mesmerizing acoustic guitars. They've made some really interesting updates and expansions to their music and shows, with an added repertoire of electric guitar and rock. The combination of traditional and new music was just outstanding. It's hard to believe that a duo could put on such an enjoyable show without vocals for two hours, but they do it easily. You'll love their music, their personalities, and the amazing performance they deliver. Outstanding in every way!

RyG always one of the best live experiences

by dcwineguy on 4/28/24Capital One Hall - Tysons

Rodrigo y Gabriela always provide one of the best live music experiences across any genre. They simply crush it live. This show was no exception. And shot to the newish Cap One Hall -- incredible sound system. Far better than Anthem or 930.

Being familiar with their recorded music for many years, this performance was an exciting departure from the recorded music but it also included the great classics of their discography. Loved it!

    A Big Disappointment

by Bob on 4/27/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

During intermission between the opening duo and headliners the entire venue filled with incense smoke. It was so thick by the fourth song by the headliners that my wife had an Asthma attack and we had to leave the show. Such a disappointment since we enjoyed them so much last time they were in Charleston. The venue was super but we will probably not attend another show there if this is a normal practice at every show.

    High energy with feeling

by Bez on 4/27/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

Very simple stage set, with some cool lights and awesome sound quality. Rodrigo Y Gabriela delivered everything I could have hoped for, it felt very special. I’m pleased I did the 2 hour drive to see them and would do it again today if I could. The Charleston Music Hall is a well laid out and intimate venue, so I’d absolutely recommend both Rodrigo y Gabriela and the venue

    Like The Old Tunes Better...

by Raban on 4/26/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

Not sure if they evolved trying to attract a younger crowd. Most of the attendees (like myself) were baby boomers. Their new stuff is too "hard rockish"for my taste. I much prefer the old stuff. played on classical guitars. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I won't go back to see them, but wish them well in their new "path".

    Great show

by borg47 on 4/26/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

I was more familiar with their nuevo flamenco influenced work from years ago and was pleasantly surprised by their more recent work in rock and heavy metal. Wife and I really enjoyed the show.

Audio "Designers"are out to make us deaf

by Audio Oppressed on 4/24/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The musicians were very skilled. But once again, an event at the Parker Playhouse was ruined by grotesque over-amplification. There's a problem when the sound is almost completely emanating from speakers with very little, if any, coming from the stage. This performance was ruined by damaging decibels of sound. We shouldn't need to bring ear plugs to concerts to protect our ears, and yet that's exactly what I and many others are forced to do - which of course mutes the crispness of the sound. It's very frustrating. There was a Chris Botti concert at the Parker where once again the sound was coming out of the speakers and virtually nothing coming from the stage. His last piece was without amplification and it was beautiful. Actors, musicians, singers all did perfectly well for centuries without amplification. Hell, even small theatres are making their performers wear mics. It's insane. A pox on audio 'designers'.

One of the best concerts I ever attended.

by Laura on 4/23/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

To say they are talented, is to minimize the magic behind the guitars. The experience of watching Rodrigo and Gabriela is exquisite and magical. I want to see them again without a doubt.

Rodrigo and Gabriela were wonderful. Their music is so beautiful and complex. They were high energy. They spent time interacting with the audience as well. I had been looking forward to seeing them live for the last few years, and the actual event far surpassed my expectations. Thank you!

    Powerful, unlike any other experience

by Rol on 4/22/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

I became aware of their music just about two or three years ago. Immediately got my attention. I thought I was going to a more "predictable"concert (acoustic guitars with their own music and some cover songs with their special twist). What I experienced was a concert with a unique sounds, mostly acoustic guitars, but also a blend of electronic sounds very well integrated into the music. The lights were subtle but powerful. And, the real show, these two musicians have endless energy and complement each other very well. I have been to concerts of some of the great flamenco guitar players, but never saw anybody playing a Spanish guitar with so much energy. R&G clearly continue evolving, exploring new sounds. And, be ready to move... impossible to stay in your seat. All thumbs up. Hope I can catch more of their shows.

    Very disappointing!

    by Lou on 4/20/24

I have loved RyG for many years and have seen them live twice before and was dazzled by their virtuosity and brilliance. I went to the show with great anticipation and actually left midway through. All they did was workshop their latest album. This is never a good idea for a performer who fills seats with longtime fans of their core material. Doing a song or two from a new project is expected. But that's not what happened here. Further, this latest project leans heavily towards their more electric side with an emphasis on the metal in their past. IT was ear-crunchingly loud....the songs were not particularly musical or memorable...the unfamiliarity of the repertoire was trying....the audience had bored looks on their faces....and people were leaving as of the 30 minute mark...including me. That is something I have NEVER done in my life. But this was not the show I expected and I felt taken advantage of by the performers.
