This show was so enjoyable! The symphony orchestra played beautifully, and the arrangement of the Pixar movies was beautifully done. My 4 1/2 year old loved it! She has all the Pixar movies and recognized the music and the scenes before I knew which movie was which. Highly recommend!

Rating: 5 out of 5 A magical night out
by LMCMD on 6/29/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaThis event needs to be brought to NJ and everywhere else. If you aren't watching the orchestra, it's easy to forget they're playing it live. Everything sounded so perfect, and the selections were amazing. I was so beyond impressed and pleased. A great night out.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 6/29/13The Mann Center - Philadelphia Really enjoyed the visuals paired with music. The Pittsburgh Symphony was outstanding, handling all genres equally well.
Rating: 5 out of 5 MANN CENTER WAS AMAZING
by MIMInc on 6/29/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaThe show was amazing, but the communication of the Mann Center due to the inclement weather and their accommodation of their guests was super. Children and adults alike were engaged in the performance. The music was awesome. The staff at the Mann helped make what could have been a very disappointing experience an exceptional one. Thank you all, I will be back Mimi

by Possibly on 6/29/13The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaA family of 4 with third and fourth graders, we loved it. The PSO sounded phenomenal, and the marriage of live music to video montages from the movies was not only entertaining but added an interesting twist. The Mann continues to be my favorite venue for live music.
Rating: 4 out of 5by HugeCCRFan on 5/7/13Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts - Pittsburgh The evening opened with the world premiere of "The Gift" by Christopher Theofanidis. This was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to honor the symphony's Chairman of the Board, Mr. Richard Simmons and his very sizable financial gift to the symphony. The Pittsburgh Symphony was joined for the performance by the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and soloist Anthony Dean Griffey. The piece is based on an Indian and Pakistani folk tale and was 20 minutes in duration. While the performers were top flight the composition was just average to me and actually odd. After the intermission, the symphony, under the direction of Manfred Honeck was backed up by the Mendelssohn Choir and four soloists, Angela Meade, Kelly O'Connor, Alexander Vinogradov and Mr. Griffey. They performed Beethoven's Symphony Number 9 "Ode to Joy". At the beginning Mr. Honeck discussed the composition and performance with the audience explaining that it was going to be played according to the metronome markings made by Beethoven when he originally composed it which is, in many parts of the composition, much faster than the traditional way that it is played. He then had the orchestra demonstrate the traditional tempo and the tempo as he concluded was the way that Beethoven intended it to be played. He did this three or four times. This added a lot of interest. He then powered the orchestra and accompaniment through the 67 minute long symphony. Very enjoyable and superb!
Rating: 4 out of 5 Singing City was Wonderful!
by Booningning on 4/30/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThe Singing City concert was a wonderful event, with the highlight being the 2500 voice choir singing the premier performance of Jonny Priano's work.

by joecrafton on 4/27/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghWOW! The concert was the absolute best. The sound system and microphones and the rest of the tech made the orchestra sound as live as ever in the big hall. How I'd love to know how to do all that coordination. A bit crowded on the floor seating but understandable for the venue. I loved the whole evening.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Singing City was an incredible experience
by butlerpsych on 4/26/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghBeautiful, moving, wonderful........the music and the spirit were amazing indeed. Well produced down to the big screens showing the conductor's face as he conducted (a view that the audience rarely gets). So glad to see a truly interfaith experience such as this.
Rating: 5 out of 5 For m the highlight was Mahler's The Resurrection
by PghLong on 4/26/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThe pure emotion of ALL the performers, the SOLOISTS, the CHOIR and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra were delivered joy like I have never felt before. Maestro Honeck is truly amazing! He knows what his audience wants to know about the music and is so articulate in expressing his thoughts! He is so intelligent, yet he is able to explain his thoughts in clear everyday language so that even common people like me can understand. Then he leads the orchestra and choirs to deliver such a wonderful performance! So one has experienced just what he said we would!
Rating: 5 out of 5 singing city , remarkable!
by sjsv on 4/23/13Petersen Events Center - Pittsburghthe effort was huge, the p erformers were very impressive, one drawback was the acoustics, made the sound not project, so the music and singing were dimmed. the only song i did not care for was the one that had 2 solo singers[ i am not a fan of opera] the voices of the speakers could have been toned down, as they came across very loud. great performance. we are fortunate to have such an effort take place in Pgh!! the large screens helped to see the performers
Rating: 5 out of 5 Well done and well worth it
by Victoriaj on 4/23/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThis was an absolutely beautiful concert. It is amazing that they were able to get that many people working so well together. The musical selections couldn't have been better. I'm sure there were many audience members that were new to symphony music and classical choral concerts.
Rating: 5 out of 5 unforgettable!!
by cbi342 on 4/22/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghA great deal of preparation went into this event. With Maiestro Honeck's inspired leadership and the commitment of all the singers, added to the wonderful Pittsburgh Symphony , the effect was inspiring, in spite of the less than optimal acoustics. A very nice feature was the closeps of various orchestra members, singers and Maiestro Honeck himself.

Rating: 5 out of 5 An evening of total enjoyment!
by Grandmahas on 4/22/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghI totally enjoyed this event, as did the friend who went with me. The Pittsburgh Symphony was spectacular and the voices of the choir members were angelic. What a joy to watch Maestro Honeck guide each orchestra member on such a crowd pleasing journey. Each spiritual speaker added a great deal to the evening. Near the end of the event we were invited to sing along as the orchestra played, something that thrilled me - someone who never thought to add "sing with the PittsburghSymphony" to her bucket list! Bravo!
Rating: 3 out of 5 Bad acoustics for Po
by Rudolph66 on 4/22/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThe PSO is always incredible and the choirs were wonderful, but the acoustics at THE PETE were made for that type pf music. The sound was less that optimal. Everyone did a great job and the forum was great. Too bad they chose that particular venue as its location. Oh well, I hope they do it agin next year and choose a different spot. I realize it is hard with a 2000 person choir- but I can only imagine how the same concert would have sounded at Heinz hall

by SHillsMom on 4/22/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThe sounds and spirit of the orchestra with 2200 voices were a delight to the ears and a joy to the heart. What a thrill to have all these faith-filled Pittsburghers united in praise and peace. .
Rating: 4 out of 5 Pittsburgh Symphony at the Petersen
by nelson1457 on 4/22/13Petersen Events Center - PittsburghThe music, the poetry was amazing. I'm so glad we went. However, logistics was a nightmare. I had a problem with my tickets, and I got bounced around from Ticketmaster to the Pittsburgh Symphony box office to the Petersen box office. In these situations, someone has to step up and take charge!!! And getting in to the event. Come on! We had floor tickets. Why did we have to go up three levels, and then walk all the way down. You don't have to do that for basketball. Next year, please fix these problems.
