NICKEL CREEK IN CONCERT:
Seven years after their 2007 Farewell (For Now) Tour, contemporary bluegrass trio Nickel Creek are making good on their promise of a reunion, hitting the road in support of 2014's A Dotted Line —their first new album since 2005. Featuring innovative fiddle, mandolin, and guitar work, the group's acoustic performances are an impressive display of coordination, highlighted by tight instrumental interplay and intricate vocal harmonies. Celebrating 25 years since their formation, Nickel Creek's 2014 tour will treat fans to their biggest hits alongside material from the new album, with select appearances by country sweethearts the Secret Sisters.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed by Chris Thile and siblings Sara and Sean Watkins in 1989, Nickel Creek began performing as pre-teens, playing bluegrass festivals in the '90s while receiving home-schooling between tour dates. Following two early albums, the trio teamed up with country-folk legend Alison Krauss for their self-titled third album, a critical and commercial success that received several Grammy nominations. 2002's This Side proved an even more momentous success, earning the group a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album with its creative blend of indie rock and traditional bluegrass elements. Following the 2005 release of their Grammy-winning fifth album Why Should the Fire Die?, the band went on a seven-year hiatus before making a triumphant return to both studio and stage with 2014's A Dotted Line.
One of the most talented groups around, great show from start to finish!
Great show as usual! The amount of talent they have is incredible
The concert was excellent. Nickel Creek are fantastic musicians. The Johnny Mercer Theater is a big venue with many empty seats for this concert. Our original balcony seats were in row X -- almost to the back. We were able to move closer. Parking was $5 and easy. We enjoyed the concert.
The band is so good together. They enjoy playing together and entertaining the audience. Not to mention their instrumental and vocal prowess. And the Tennessee Theater is a gem.
All four members of this amazing group played their hearts out. They’re all geniuses and I was very moved. Not to be missed! It also helped that the Tennessee Theatre has excellent acoustics unlike arenas like Thompson Bowling Food City arena and others of the like which almost always make for a horrible acoustical experience.
From the beginning to the end- this was an amazing event… beautiful, creative, fun, and impressive talent from start to finish!
5th time to see them live. Love this album. Sara and Sean sound even stronger than before. Chris fab as ever. Their harmonies, musicianship, and energy were all perfect.
When I was unable to attend their concert last year in the state I live in (due to a death in the family), I was super sad. Thankfully I was able to get tickets in Knoxville this year and attend the show. I drove almost 600 miles and it was well worth the drive! I have always said that seeing a good band play a live show (especially if they are enjoying performing!!) is food for the soul. My soul was replenished and revived, and I felt like a happy kid again! …still do! Highly recommended you see them when you get the opportunity!! All 4 are excellent musicians!
Such a great concert by a great band. Their opening act, Gaby Moreno, was great as well. One of the best concerts we have been to!
Nickel Creek sounded great. They were energetic and excited to be here. The pace of the concert was good. They played their most popular songs. It was a great performance!
Fantastic show in one of my favorite venues! Nickel Creek never disappoints!
It was such a good show! A good chunk was from the new album (which I love) but there were several of their classic tunes played as well.
Nickel Creek is one of my favorite bands! They are fabulous musicians, sing gorgeous harmonies and you can tell they have been playing together since they were kids- they are THAT good. Love them & this was one of their best shows of all time!
The show was amazing the theatre was amazing. I could have watched the show again and again!
Energetic. Artistic. Alive. Entertaining. Happy Birthday to me!!
The venue is incredible and Nickel Creek put on an amazing concert. They put on quite a show with their music and storytelling. Can’t wait to see them again and can’t wait to visit the Tennessee for my next event.
Opening act for Nickel Creek (Gaby Moreno) was awesome. She did a 30-min solo acoustic set that was beautiful. She gained a new first time fan from that performance. Nickel Creek put on a solid show as expected. It was 10 years ago since we were last able to see them live in concert. This performance did not disappoint. Good energy, great harmony, just a solid show all the way around. First time in the venue that is the 95 year old Tennessee Theater. Such a beautiful place with very comfy seats and great views of the stage from everywhere.
I used to have some Nickel Creek CDs in my office 20 years ago. I loved them and had them on all day! They got lost in moves and retirement, and of course the band took a break. When I saw they were coming to Knoxville, I was flooded with memories. I had to go. Man I am glad I did. They are better than ever. Like fine wine!
Wonder show from start to finish. We left only wanting more music.
Loved the concert! Lots of energy and a lot of great songs!
