About
Los Rojos in Concert
Los Rojos have created a musical synthesis of lively norteañas with an unflinching, progressive approach likely to leave any spectator feeling energized. When Los Rojos step onto the scene, brothers Antonio, Ángel and Alexis Ruiz blaze in like musicians ready for battle. Ditching the typical cowboy sombrero, the Monterrey natives appear on stage donning slick but rugged attire often consisting of denim, button-ups, and the classic pointy boots, looking like chivalrous small-town troubadours. Their live performances are invigorating experiences that inspire crowds to either kick up dust during the more uptempo selections or slow dance, cheek to cheek, during a romantic set of ballads.
Los Rojos Background
Formed by brothers Antonio, Ángel and Alexis Ruiz in 2008, the party-starting regional Mexican band have been wreaking havoc in the Monterrey underground circuit and throughout Northern Mexico. With every bandmate an impressively skilled instrumentalist, the siblings have earned their reputation to innovate la música norteña within its traditional confines. In 2014, they made their official musical introduction with the album Comienza la Dinastía (The Dynasty Begins). The debut stayed true to their family values — an old-fashioned genre passed down from generation to generation. Fueled by just three instruments — the accordion, tambora drums and a guitar (aka bajo sexto) — the three-piece band delivers a sound as rich as that of any larger ensemble. Performing songs ranging from baladas románticas to corridos alterados, their dynamic approach is often dubbed "progressive norteño," as exemplified by 2016's Deja de Hacer la Guerra (Stop Making War) and 2019's Ni Juez Ni Parte (Neither Judge Nor Party). When Los Rojos' music earned a spot in the soundtrack for the Netflix hit series El Señor de los Cielos, it gained wider appeal beyond Mexico. In 2020, the trio released III, in which they further perfected the art of the corrido — a narrative-styled ballad that highlights the immigrant experience, drug-lord notoriety, and working-class struggles common to those living along the US-Mexico border.
