About

LITE IN CONCERT:

Arty Japanese math rockers LITE have been blowing minds with their razor-sharp musicianship and experimental sound since the early '00s, amassing a loyal fanbase that extends far beyond the Land of the Rising Sun. Every LITE show serves up a jaw-dropping display of technical ability as each member flexes their chops on their instrument – Nobuyuki Takeda on guitar, Kozo Kusomoto on synth, Jun Izawa on bass, and Akinori Yamamoto on drums. The band's kaleidoscopic riffs and intricate polyrhythms render any need for a singer obsolete – their musicianship is the star of the show, and their virtuosic instrumentals never fail to floor ticket buyers. LITE is beloved for their intense and impressive live shows (they've released three live albums), and it's easy to see what the fuss is about as they tear through sonically ambitious tracks like "Bond" and "100 Million Rainbows" in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

LITE formed in Tokyo in 2003 and quickly established themselves in the city's underground scene with a pair of self-released demos that showcased their arty take on math rock. UK imprint Cargo Records caught wind of the buzz, and in 2007 the label released the band's full-length debut album to European markets. A tour of the UK and Ireland followed, including a remarkable show in Limerick that the band released as a live album. The exposure led to a flurry of activity for LITE – in late 2007 they dropped the EP A Tiny Twofer, in 2008 they dropped their sophomore album Phantasia, and in 2009 they made their US debut with a buzzed-about NYC show opening for Mike Watt's Missingmen. Since then they've continued to record acclaimed albums and tour extensively, including a summer 2016 tour in support of fellow math rockers TTNG.
